1. He is opinionated on a vast variety of subjects when he expresses his opinion, he voices it out strongly.
This has offended some people and caused them to bash him in return. Most recent examples are his opinions about rival “It’s Showtime”, which he has tweeted about for several times. He also had been criticized in the past, for his strong wordings against now defunct Wowowee.
2. His sarcasm hurts people who do not get it.
Joey is known both for his wit and sarcastic jokes. Sometimes, he cannot help but go overboard in his desire to make people laugh. Some people don’t get it and get mad at him for this.
3. His creativity in weaving words brings him trouble sometimes.
With a very sharp mind, Joey de Leon cannot help but express it, even in what others consider to be serious matters. Take the case of his infamous tweets about the NEPAL earthquake which some people found offensive. He was also suspended twice by MTRCB for using what they considered were offensive words in 2003 and in 2004.
4. His deadpan way of delivering jokes confuses some people.
Joey rarely smiles when he delivers his jokes. That sometimes causes a lot of confusion among viewers. Is he joking or what?
5. His extensive knowledge on just about any subject is sometimes perceived as bragging.
Gifted with a photographic memory, Joey gives out facts and nuggets of wisdom on just about any subject. For some people, they think that he is just bragging about his knowledge. They do not know that this is just second nature to Joey. His “Henyo” monicker has basis, after all.
