“In My Life” (2009)
This is a film which shows that a “mother-in-law” pose a problem not only for a heterosexual couple but for a gay couple as well. Lucky Manzano plays the role of Mark Salvacion, who is in a relationship with Noel Villanueva (John Lloyd Cruz).
Noel and Mark’s peaceful co-existence is rattled when Shirley Templo (Vilma Santos), Mark’s mother, decides to live with her son.
The film was a blockbuster and was also critically-acclaimed. It earned more than P135M at the box office and won as Best Film at Gawad Suri Awards, 26th PMPC Star Awards for Movies, and 8th Gawad Tanglaw Awards. Olivia Lamasan won several citations as Best Director for the film, and Vilmas Santos was given Best Actress for her performance by several award-giving bodies. Same goes for John Lloyd Cruz and Luis Manzano, who won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively for their portrayals as the gay couple.
