VIRAL: Is there evil behind ‘Pak Ganern?’

It doesn’t mean it’s viral, it’s true… There are just too many gullible netizens around. Beware of hoaxes!

Pak ganern

The ‘Pak Ganern Chalenge’ has achieved something phenomenal: bringing attention to this new craze within days after Vice Ganda introduced this gameon “It’s Showtime” and went viral.

‘Pak Ganern Challenge’ spreads across social media

The challenge, though existing in over a year as a gay parlor game, have gone a long way and still going on and on like a virus on different platforms of media.

Is the challenge satanic?

Pak ganern

According to this viral screenshot of a google search (above), ‘Pak Gaern’ is derived fromLatinwords “Paccrassius” which means “be with me satan” and “Ganri” means “eternal.” The screencap also says that “everytime we’re saying ‘Pak Ganern,’ we are inviting satan to be with us eternally.”

According to UP Professor Felipe Jocano Jr., the context of the words ‘Pak Ganern’came from gay lingo words ‘Tumpak’ at ‘Ganoon.’ There’s no other meaning other than that. We searched the word “Paccrassius” and “Ganri” on a Latin dictionary and we found nothing. We also asked some of our friends who can studied Latin and confirmed to us that there is really no such thing as ‘Pak Ganern’ in Latin.

Urban Dictionary says ‘Pak Ganern’ is a Filipino phrase to express happiness, excitement, bragging, amazement, shock, et. al. The origin of the word pak comes from the sound of something explosive (as with the other Filipino expression; boom panes) that connotes something big, amazing and wonderful. Ganern is from the Tagalog word “ganoon or ganun” which literally means “like that”. Pak ganern can literally mean “Boom! Look at that!”

It’s easy to make stories like this. Nice try!

Whoever started this Latin meaning of ‘Pak Ganern’ is totally stupid. How about those who believed in this stupidity? What do you want us to call them?
