Why Kris Aquino is Philippine Cinema’s Horror Queen?

Aside from being the ‘Queen Of All Media’, Kris Aquino has been considered as the ‘Horror Queen of Philippine Cinema.’ With her numerous box-office horror movie, Kris is undeniably the monarch of this film genre.

Kris Aquino is also famous with her ‘iconic scream’ every time the ghost pop out in the frame.

LionhearTV listed the horror movies of the one and only Kris Aquino that earned her prime title, ‘Horror Queen.’

Shake, Rattle and Roll 3 (1991)

Kris Aquino starred on “Yaya” episode of the famous horror movie series of Regal Films. She plays the role of Tany, who moves into a new house with her baby daughter. She hired a nanny that supposedly take good care of her daughter but the nanny happened to have a mysterious secret that made the story horrific.

The Elsa Castillo Story: Ang Katotohanan (1994)

This 1994 movie tagged Kris Aquino as the ‘massacre queen.’ She played the title role, Elsa Castillo who was brutally murdered by her husband and popularized as the ‘chop-chop lady.’ Though it is not a story that tells supernatural and ghost entities, Director Laurice Guillen made the movie extra savage.

Feng Shui (2004)

Considered as of the most well-loved horror movie of Kris Aquino, Feng Shui tells the cursed ‘bagua’ mirror where a person gets killed if they stare at the Bagua mirror, with their death relating at any way to their Chinese zodiac. She portrayed the role of Joy Ramirez who found a package that contain the cursed ‘bagua.’

The movie is considered as the highest-grossing film in 2014 with a box-office P114,236,563 .

Sukob (2006)

After the success of the movie “Feng Shui,” Kris once again made history with her horror movie with Claudine Barretto, “Sukob.” The two actresses played a long-lost sisters who were cursed due to their same day wedding.

In 2006, the movie considered as the highest grossing horror film of all time defeating her own movie, “Sukob.”

Dalaw (2010)

Starring Kris Aquino, Diether Ocampo and Karylle, the movie focuses in Kris’ character Stella who married Anton, played by Diether Ocampo. Along the way, the movie showed hoe Stella tries to save her family from the ghost’s wrath.

Segunda Mano (2011)

The movie feature an all-star cast of Kris Aquino, Dingdong Dantes and Angelica Panganiban. The story revolves on the life of Mabel (Kris), Ivan (Dingdong) and Mariella (Angelica) and how their characters related to each other.

The movie gave Dingdong Dantes a Best Actor Award for his exeptional performance as the mysterious and antagonistic character.

Feng Shui 2 (2014)

 

After 10 years, the hit movie “Feng Shui” had its sequel and Kris Aquino reprised her role from the first movie. Coco Martin play the role of Lester, the new owner of the curse ‘bagua.’ Upon getting the cursed bagua, starts to have luck and prosperity, but with deadly consequences.

The film became the second-highest-grossing film at the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival. It now holds the title of having the highest opening gross of any Filipino horror film of all time, having earned a total of ₱235.0 million at the box office.

Kris Aquino certainly made enough films in this genre that exiled her as ‘Philippine Cinema’s Horror Queen.’ This Halloween, we are hoping that you might consider Kris’s horror films on your movie marathon.
