  • President Rodrigo Duterte kissed an OFW in Seoul, Korea.
  • Kara David re-tweeted posts from other netizens
  • She also wrote a tweet with an anonymous quote with a hashtag, #BabaeAko.

President Rodrigo Duterte had a hefty amount of cheers while kissing an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). However, netizens noted that his act normalizes misogyny and sexual harassment.

Kapuso journalist Kara David reacted on this issue using the hashtag, #BabaeAko. She also re-tweeted posts from other netizens which also included a statement from Senator Risa Hontiveros.

Kara also re-tweeted a post from Florin Hilbay (@fthilbay). In the said tweet, Florin also wrote that President Rodrigo’s actions just inspired the normalization of misogyny.

The tweet also includes an encouragement to support the hashtag, #BabaeAko.

“WAG TULARAN. this is that path that normalizes misogyny. suportahan ang #BabaeAko”

Kara re-tweeted a post from Jam Sisante-Cayco (@jamsisante). In the said tweet, Jam wrote what Senator Risa thought about President Rodrigo’s actions. The tweet also includes that his actions became a display of sexism and grave abuse of authority.

“Sen. Risa Hontiveros on Pres. Duterte kissing an OFW in Seoul: It was a despicable display of sexism and grave abuse of authority. President Duterte acted like a feudal king who thinks that being the President is an entitlement to do anything that he pleases”

“Hontiveros: Even if the act was consensual, it was the President, possessed of awesome, even intimidating, power, who initiated it. It was not a meeting of two consenting individuals on equal terms. Uneven power relations were clearly at play”

Kara also tweeted a quote from an anonymous person. In the said tweet, Kara wrote how a person should treat a woman with respect as she’s not a toy and does not owe anything to any man. The tweet also includes the hashtag, #BabaeAko.

“A woman is not an object. She is not something; she is someone. You treat a woman with respect. She is not your toy. She doesnt owe you anything just cause you are a man. Grow up and start treating women how they deserve to be treated” #BabaeAko”
