The road to the engagement of celebrity couple Jessy Mendiola and Luis Manzano was not an easy one.
In a video, Jessy revealed her most horrific experience that no woman would ever want—learning the proposal did not from her lover, but from somebody else.

Radiant Jewelry was the designer of the first ring that Jessy wore. The actress collaborated with Radiant by giving them her dream ring. Her fiancé already paid in full for the engagement ring and was only waiting for the chance to finally propose.
However, things between Jessy and Luis turned sour. This delayed the proposal of the TV host.
“Luis and I went through something to the point na nag-hiwalay kami,” the actress said while starting to feel emotional.
A former friend of Jessy, who was working with Radiant Jewelry, pestered Luis to get the ring/At the time, Luis was not yet sure what would happen between him and Jessy so he did not get the ring.
“I just found out about this, during the time pala na hindi kami okay, siyempre yung ring fully paid, nasa kanya na. She kept badgering Luis to get the ring even nung hindi pa kami ayos ni Luis,” the actress narrated.
Jessy didn’t know what went through that person’s head as the individual showed her the ring and even let her wear it.
“Dumating sa point na… for whatever reason, I don’t know kung ano yun, she showed me the ring. And she opened the box in front of me, knowing na hindi kami ayos ni Luis. She let me wear the ring,” Jessy continued while fighting back the tears.
Jessy was baffled that someone could actually do that. She shared how someone could actually blurt out the supposed surprise of her boyfriend.
“So can you imagine yung feeling nang isang babae na hindi kayo ayos nung boyfriend. Tapos pinasuot niya sayo yung ring. Na naisip mo, what could have been na kung okay kaya kami ni Luis, magpoprose kaya siya? Kailangan bang umabot sa ganitong point na ibang tao yung magsasabi sakin about the ring?”

This made Jessy feel like she was robbed of the feeling of getting proposed to. The actress learned about Luis’s plan even before he had the chance to propose and that’s what broke Jessy’s heart.
“Nalaman ko about the ring way before Luis even got the chance to propose to me. And nawala samin yung feeling na… yung excitement na luluhod yung lalaki sa harap mo, kinakabahan, hindi niya alam sasabihin sa’yo. Tapos tatanungin ka nya ng ‘Will you marry me?’, nawala sa amin yun,” Jessy, who wasv ery emotional, stated.
Fortunately, the couple chose to move on from that incident. Luis got the ring from Radiant jewelry. But when they got the ring, that person started messaging the actress’ friends and family, claiming that she was maltreated and that it was Jessy’s fault.
“Don’t get me wrong ha? Kaya ko pang patawarin yung taong ‘to eh. Because she was my friend nga. But, after a few weeks, after a few days, she started messaging all of my friends, my family, saying na I treated her like a doormat,” the actress said.
However, the actress was confused as to why that person could go to such an extent. She even emphasized that they kept their mouth shut and stayed away from all the negativity so that they could start fresh.
She continued, “Na dapat patawarin ko sya kasi ako ang may kasalanan. Hindi ko alam kung anong naging kasalanan ko. But if meron pa, okay. But do you really have to go this far? Do you really to do this? Kasi kami ni Lu sa simula hindi na kami nagsalita eh. Gusto lang namin na matapos na lahat. Gusto lang namin ng fresh start. Gusto lang namin positive lahat.”
However, it took months for the TV host to propose as he let Jessy heal from the horrendous experience.
“Di ba masakit yun? Na yung moment, bilang isang babae, pinangarap mo yung milestone na yun sa buhay mo na may isang lalaki na magpo-propose sa’yo. Na smooth lahat dapat, everything light dapat. Yung kumbaga, parang yun yung traditional na dapat mangyari sa buhay ng isang babae at syempre para sa isang lalaki, milestone din sa buhay yun na makapag-propose sya,” she said.
“Now, we will never ever get the chance to finally feel an engagement or a proposal would feel like,” said Jessy.
For the actress, the meaning behind the ring was far more important than the ring itself. Despite this unfortunate event, she learned to accept it. They were able to have their prenup shoot in Amanpulo without any delay.
“The ring is just a ring. But the purpose behind it is more important. At yun yung tinanggap ko. Kumbaga yun yung mas tinignan ko, na meant to be kami ni Luis. Na kahit malaman ko about the ring, kahit iba pa nagsabi sakin, nagheal kami ni Lu. We were able to plan our prenup shoot in Amanpulo,” the actress emphasized.
Despite the negativity caused by the friend, she’s still optimistic and happy that she’s finally engaged to the person she loves, Luis.
“So at the end of the day, I’m engaged to the person that I love,” Jessy gladly said.
