Richard Yap had to be honest about a daring question of whether he is willing to take on gay roles in a TV or movie project.
The new Kapuso leading man had a guest appearance in the ‘May Pa-Presscon’ segment of The Boobay and Tekla Show last Sunday, January 24.
Yap was in a hot seat where he answered controversial questions regarding his personal life and career.
He conceded that when he was still young, he really had no intention of becoming an actor and only did commercials because he needed a sideline to earn.
He also shared that when he was in college, someone offered him to be a model, however, he refused after learning that he needed to undress.
As the genre of Boys’ Love or fondly known as BL continued to trend in the Philippines, host Tekla asked Yap if he would play a gay role if he ever had an acting project.
The actor admitted, “Parang hindi. Kasi siguro baka hindi ko kaya.”
He mentioned that his dream role was to be like the action-drama character of James Bond.
It was in 2011 when Yap was featured prominently as Papa Chen Sy, who portrayed Kim Chiu‘s father in an ABS-CBN teleserye My Binondo Girl.
He also rose to fame worldwide with his role as Richard ‘Sir Chief’ Lim in the daytime drama Be Careful with My Heart. Actress Jodi Sta. Maria was her leading lady in the phenomenal late-morning show which ran from 2012-2014.
They also top-billed in a box office romantic film The Achy Breaky Hearts as they reunited on the big screen in 2016.
In FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, he played Philip Tang, whose role was a criminal underworld character.
He was also paired with Vina Morales in Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita and made special participations in Till I Met You and My Super D.
In 2016, Yap also starred in the movie Mano Po 7: Chinoy under Regal Films.
But due to ABS-CBN‘s loss of franchise amid the pandemic and offers from other networks, the actor-businessman opted to move to GMA-7.
Since the beginning of the year, Yap has appeared on Eugene Domingo‘s weekend show Dear Uge as his first stint of being a GMA talent.
