The Philippines became the first stop of DC Studios’ global promotional tour for the upcoming ‘Superman’ film, as director James Gunn, producer Peter Safran, and lead stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan visited Manila on June 19 and 20.
The tour began with a fan gathering at Bridgetowne Open Grounds, where hundreds of Filipino fans attempted to form the country’s largest human recreation of the Superman logo. Later in the evening, the team headed to the Mall of Asia Music Hall for a red carpet event, where they were met with roaring cheers, eager autograph-seekers, and selfie-snapping fans.
“Thank you guys, thank you!” Corenswet was heard saying as he signed memorabilia for fans and local media.
In a brief address onstage, Gunn expressed surprise at the overwhelming reception. “I don’t know why I didn’t expect this because Filipino fans are the best. I talk to them all the time online. You’re a beautiful country.”
To commemorate the visit, SM Supermalls President Steven Tan presented the team with uniquely Filipino souvenirs: model jeepneys adorned in Superman colors and even featuring a cape. Gunn lifted his jeepney and joked, “I thought we were getting actual ones,” drawing laughter from the crowd.
Tan also recalled how the Mall of Asia first screened ‘Superman Returns’ nearly 20 years ago. Now, the superhero’s return to the big screen on July 9 marks a nostalgic and full-circle moment for Filipino fans.
Joining Corenswet and Brosnahan in the film are Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Sara Sampaio, Mikaela Hoover, Edi Gathegi, Wendell Pierce, Beck Bennett, and Alan Tudyk.
