Actress Aiko Melendez recounts the lowest point in her life due to her vanity. She said she prayed, and God restored her.

In the media conference for the new episode of GMA Network’s anthology series, I Can See You: #Future, Melendez recounted her lowest point in life.

Melendez first highlighted that she became addicted to making sure she looks good.

“There was a time na I was /just/ so addicted to looking good. Yung umabot na ko sa pagiging vain.”

Because of this, she tried an injection that had adverse effects on her face. It cost her her projects, which she sorely needed after coming from a losing election.

“So I tried this injection on my face, and apparently, it worked the other way around. Imbes na napaganda ako, nasira ‘yung mukha ko. At that time, I was doing a show. And then, I was coming from a losing election. So, I totally needed the work that I had at that time. Pero nasuspend ako dahil nasira ‘yung mukha ko because out of my vanity nga.”

As a result, she devoted herself to God to find her healing.

“I prayed. Sabi ko Lord pagilingin mo ‘ko. Pag napagaling mo ‘ko, I will serve you; you will be my only one. Ikaw ang talagang mag-rereign sa buhay ko.”

After six months of treatment and prayers, her face healed.

“And then, after six months ng gamutan sa face ko, I woke up one day, na bumalik sa normal ‘yung mukha ko.”

Right after her face healed, Melendez returned to film with the 2014 movie, Asintado.

“Yung Asintado, ‘yun ‘yung first project ko after nagamot na ‘yung mukha ko. When I did Asintado, the movie, sobra na ‘yung blessing ng panginoon sa akin noon.”

To add to her success, she received an award for her role in Asintado (2014). Melendez then proclaimed that God restored her.

“I won Best Actress in London. First time kong manalo sa ibang bansa. Tapos after noon sunod sunod na, binalik ng Diyos sa akin ‘yung mga nawala. Sabi ko nga, Lord, it’s just, He restored me.”

Melendez started her career as an actress in 1982. She starred in multiple iconic films such as Batang X, Shake, Rattle, and Roll IV, Buddy en Sol (Sine ito).

Melendez won Best Actress (Global) at the International Film Festival Manhattan in New York and Best Actress in a Foreign Language Film at the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema in London, both in 2015 for Asintado (2014).

Then, she became an iconic kontrabida in the Kapamilya teleserye, Wild Flower. Then, Melendez transferred to GMA Network in 2019, taking on another iconic kontrabida role in Prima Donnas.

Now she joins the cast of I Can See You: #Future which aims to provide a commentary on how people use social media these days. Miguel Tanfelix and Alcantara top-bills the newest episodes of the anthology series. Alongside them are Gabby Eigenmann, Mikoy Morales, and Dani Porter. Directed by Director Zapata, I Can See You: #Future airs this April 5, 2021 right after First Yaya on GMA Network.
