TNT Judges Nyoy Volante, Karylle, Louie Ocampo share thoughts on being a judge before vs. new normal

On September 13, Nyoy Volante, Karylle, and Louie Ocampo shared their thoughts on the differences between being a judge in Tawag ng Tanghalan before versus the new normal.

During the media conference for Tawag ng Tanghalan Season 5 Grand Finals, Nyoy emphasized the benefits of judging the TNT singers through a device.

“Actually, parang feeling ko nga naging mas madali for us to listen from our devices kasi maririnig namin what everyone else is hearing.

“In terms of the emotional aspect kasi syempre nakikita mo stories nila na parang medyo naghihirap ‘yung kalagayan nila ngayon.

“‘Yung ibang mga contestant may mga pinagdadaanan because of the pandemic. I guess more than anything. The challenge is for you not to be affected in that way.”

Karylle, on the other hand, noticed that TNT singers are more eager to perform now more than ever. She also noted their contestants are braver now in pursuing their passion.

“‘Yung iba talagang singing like there’s no tomorrow. ‘Yung sabik.

“Iba din ‘yung timpla. ‘Yung iba natakot sila dati o para mayroong ‘gagawin ko ba pangarap ko?’ Pero dahil ngayon napapaisip tayo, pinagninilay-nilayan natin kung ano nga bang gusto kong ma-achieve sa buhay ko. So a lot of them are actually becoming brave.

“‘Yung mga parang they put their dreams on hold for so long. Ngayon parang nagkaroon sila ng bagong lakas.”

Pinoy composer Louie Ocampo revealed that judging contestants remotely made his ears sharper in terms of technicalities.

“During this COVID era, my ears have become sharper regardless of what technical–regardless of the format.

“I’ve learned to listen carefully and to be able to predict what the artist is trying to share.

“Because of this downtime also, technically, I’m forgiving. Technically ha, as far as how they sound. Because I can sort of predict, eh. But it’s really more of the style and who they are.”

Eight contenders vie for the title of TNT Season 5 Grand Champion on It’s Showtime on September 18, Saturday. The talented contenders include Reiven Umali, Froilan Cedilla, Psalm Manalo, Gem Christian, Adrian Manibale, Anthony Castillo, Lorraine Galvez, and Aixia Mallary.
