Visually appealing and hilariously dark, Pornstar 2 has more flaws than charms, although there may be sprinkles of gold in its pile of mess that should invite audiences to stick with it until the conclusion.

Why You Should See It:
It’s difficult to miss the charm of Darryl Yap’s 10th full-length feature this year. A sequel to Vivamax’s very first offering, Paglaki Ko, Gusto Ko Maging Pornstar, Pornstar 2 follows the four lead characters, Moreno, Roces, Taylor, and Mina–as they look for potential young women to follow in their magnificent footsteps.
Pornstar 2 is visually appealing. There is a bigger budget poured into its production, compared to the first one. Here, the lead actresses wear more sophisticated and elaborate gowns, and there is a great deal of attention paid to the film’s attention. That’s not to say the film is without flaws, but it is interesting to note these parts where the film stands out, as some problems in the latter part can be big enough to lose the hook in audiences.
The film could very well take ‘Boobsie Wonderland’ as an alternative title and it won’t sound awkward and inappropriate. Lots of breasts take center stage in this visually graphic feature where relentless talks about sex toys, and daring sexual encounters of the original quartet—Roces, Moreno, Mina, Taylor—are also common features.
In Pornstar 2, the veteran, bold stars embark on a search for the next members of Casa Susia, home of the next Philippine Pornstar. The first stage of the competition engages the fifteen finalists to wrestle against each other in the mud, with their breasts fully exposed and captured in close-up shots. At some point, the events get extremely repetitive with the lead actress just dabbling between lengthy conversations.
The film also ultimately becomes a more than an-hour tutorial session of matters radiating around sex and seduction.
The actresses play as themselves, so in almost every conversation they engage in, they talk so much about their real-life experiences. Their discussions tend to go lengthy, and that may ultimately bore the audience. That said, there is one scene where Ara Mina, Alma Moreno, Maui Taylor, and Rosanna Roces share their ‘personal’ accounts while they were at the peak of their careers as sexy actresses. In these conversations, they drop several names, mostly seasoned actors, whom they worked within their past projects.
These moments are pure bliss, especially for those who are delighted by juicy showbiz gossips, although it’s the rawness and the authenticity of the conversation that makes it beyond endearing. Moreno and Roces undeniably generated much of the film’s comic energy, although both Mina and Taylor already did a decent job.
Ultimately, Pornstar 2 encounters problems with its plot. Things still get convoluted and there are parts of the script that barely contain sense. There are efforts employed to compensate for these flaws, and they sometimes work, but the overly repetitive nature of the proceedings can potentially discourage viewers.
That being said, there are possibly sprinkles of gold that glitter in Pornstar 2’s pile of mess, and they’re mostly enough to keep its viewers following its story until its very conclusion.
