Kapamilya actress Jane de Leon on Tuesday, August 9, revealed that she did not feel remorse when her Darna movie was canceled because she believes “there is a reason.”
Initially, the movie was to be produced in 2020. But the shutdown of ABS-CBN had its bosses ax the project. The now franchise-less network decided to turn it into a series, which was unveiled by the end of the same year.
During the press conference for the Darna TV series that included LionhearTV, among other press members, the actress recalled how the Kapamilya Network told her about the bad news. It was done through a Zoom meeting.
Her response to having the movie canceled was, “Okay lang po,” leading the Kapamilya executives to wonder, “Ha? Bakit parang okay lang?”
She knew that there was a plan for her. The project’s setbacks and delays made the actress realize that “may better plans for me si Lord, and alam ko po lahat may reason kung bakit.”
De Leon also did not expect the movie to end up being a series, with her still leading the cast.
“‘Yun po, about sa teleserye, hindi ko naman po talaga in-expect,” said the actress. “Actually po, since noong nag-audition ako, and in-announce po ako bilang Darna, ako po ‘yung klase ng tao na hindi mahilig mag-expect. Binibigay ko na lang po ang best ko and sinu-surrender ko lang lahat kay Lord.”
Meanwhile, the show will have its pilot episode to be aired on August 15. De Leon is still overwhelmed with the turn of events and was proud to say that this is their chance to prove to the world that the much-awaited series is “worth the wait.”
“Sobrang nakaka-overwhelmed and ito na ang pagkakataon namin para ipakita sa buong mundo ang pinaghirapan ng production, lahat ng cast, mapa-staff and directors.
“And siyempre, matagal din po itong hinintay ng sambayanang Pilipino, at marami kayong aabangan pagdating sa effects, sa costumes, sa villains, and siyempre sa bagong istorya ng Darna.”
Darna the TV series will be replacing FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano on the Primetime block of ABS-CBN.
