On December 27, Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 Best Actor Awardee Cedrick Juan dedicated his recent accolade to Filipinos who don’t get the justice they deserve.
At the 49th Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi ng Parangal, which LionhearTV covered, Juan cited the historical significance of their film when discussing injustice in his dedication of his award to his fellow Filipinos.
“Inaalay ko po ito, itong parangal na ito, para sa lahat ng Pilipinong hindi nakakakuha ng tamang hustisya. 152 years ago, ganon po ‘yung nangyari sa atin, ‘yun po ‘yung kwento ng tatlong paring martir na sana ay matuto tayo sa ating history hindi dahil para baguhin ito kung di para matuto.
“Maraming-maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat at sumugal kayo sa isang katulad ko na nagmahal sa pag-arte, maraming-maraming salamat teatro.”
He then thanked his family and those who supported him as an actor.
“Maraming salamat sa pamilya ko na noong una, noong una sobrang nagda-doubt sila dahil sa isang third world country parang extracurricular ang pag-arte, pero maraming-maraming salamat sa pamilya ko, sa mga kaibigan ko, Karen for always supporting me.
“Mabuhay ang pelikulang Filipino dahil bumabalik na ang mga manonood.”
He then recounted how he began his career as a theater actor.
“Nagsimula po ang adventure ko, ang kwento ko bilang actor sa teatro, kaya rin po nagpapasalamat ako sa our theater–sa FEU. Sa Dulaang UP na sobrang humubog sa akin doon. Sa lahat ng mga nakasama ko sa teatro, at siyempre sa pamilyang GomBurZa, maraming-maraming salamat po JESCOM sa pagsugal sa akin.”
