Asia’s Vocal Supreme, Katrina Velarde, credited Unkabogable star Vice Ganda on March 19 for playing a significant role in her journey to becoming a professional singer.

“Then noong nabigyan ako ng time na mag-guest sa, kunwari kay meme sa GGV, iba, iba talaga. Actually, honestly po, iba mag-lift ng career ng mga new artists din. So I’m very thankful din kay Meme Vice din.

“Sobra din niya akong, kumbaga ‘yung pag-promote niya sa akin sa Showtime, pag-TNT namin, sobra din siya. Talagang nafi-feel ko ang love niya sa akin, kaya thank you talaga,” she expressed during her ZCON media conference.

Velarde started her journey as a contestant in the 2012 X Factor Philippines before becoming a member of the all-girl vocal group AKA Jam. In 2013, Velarde made waves on the internet by covering popular songs, earning her the moniker “Suklay Diva” for her trademark purple comb, which she used as a makeshift microphone.

In 2019, Velarde appeared on Vice’s “Gandang Gabi Vice,” where she impressed both the comedian-host and the audience with her vocal prowess. Despite having a clothespin on her nose, she effortlessly sang “All By Myself,” showcasing her impressive vocal range. Additionally, she amazed everyone by doing a limbo rock while singing the same song.

While it may have seemed amusing on television, Velarde’s performance highlighted her exceptional vocal strength. Fast forward to the present, Velarde is now recognized as Asia’s Vocal Supreme and is set to hold her ZCON concert on April 19 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati City.

The concert will feature guests like Khimo Gumatay, JM Yosures, Reiven Umali, and Pop Idol Sam Mangubat.
