Comedian-actress Candy Pangilinan had a touch of regret while reflecting on the importance of listening to parents on March 22, during Viva’s ‘Sunny’ press conference at Viva Cafe.
In the Philippines, family is considered to be the core of Filipinos. But teens, in particular, tend to rebel against their parents.
According to MedicineNet, teenagers of the modern era tend to fight for independence and control. The pressure to live a lifestyle based on their wants may cause them to stop listening to their parents.
Pangilinan, 51, realized how life differs from before. Back then, her only problems were how to enjoy life through simple things, like saving up money just so she could party.
“Napa-throwback talaga ako kasi na-realize ko na life was simpler then. Mas simple ang problema, mas simple ang—‘yung baon lang ang pinoproblema mo, kung paano mo titipirin para maka-gimik ka, ‘yung mga ganoon,” the actress recalled.
Now a mother to Quentin, Pangilinan realized she should have listened to her mother and father more. The actress, who admitted she was a hard-headed teen back in the day, was in a similar situation to her parents as she raised her son.
“Kasi noong bata ako parang naiisip ko na, ‘Ano ba ‘yan, parang hindi talaga kami nagkakaintindihan ng mga magulang ko,’” the Sunny star explained. “Ngayon na magulang na ako, siguro sinasabi sa’kin din ni Quentin, ‘Hindi kami nagkaka-intindihan ng nanay ko.”
She even lamented, “Siguro dapat talaga sumunod ako sa magulang ko.”
Meanwhile, Pangilinan is one of the stars of the Philippine adaptation of the 2011 hit Korean film with a similar title. The story revolves around a middle-aged woman who wants to reunite with her high school friends before she passes.
Joining her in this movie directed by Jalz Zarate are Ana Roces, Angelu de Leon, Tanya Garcia, Sunshine Dizon, and Vina Morales. The film will also feature Heaven Peralejo, Bea Binene, Abby Bautista, Aubrey Caraan Ashtine Olviga, Ashley Diaz, Heart Ryan, Xia Vigor, and Marco Gallo.
Sunny will premiere on April 10 in cinemas.
