In a recent interview with ABS-CBN Europe Middle East Africa (EMEA) News Bureau Chief Rose Eclarinal, Piolo Pascual openly embraced the label “Marcos baby,” referring to those born during the martial law era in the Philippines.
When asked if he is a “Marcos baby,” Piolo responded, “Yeah. I grew up in Malacanang, just outside.”
He explained that his upbringing was closely tied to Malacañang because his mother worked in one of its offices. “My mom was working for Malacanang back then, in one of the offices there, one of the departments. So that was my environment when I was growing up that’s where I grew up,” he added.
This background is also why Piolo expressed interest in playing the role of former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. in a film. “As an actor, as a celebrity, I want to take on something that people will learn from, a story that needs to be told,” Piolo said.
However, he clarified that he has no intention of producing a film about President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., to avoid mixing politics with his projects.
On July 21, Piolo participated in the Barrio Fiesta in London, which he described as a significant opportunity to connect with and uplift the Kapamilya community abroad. He shared that the experiences of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are close to his heart, not only because of his films Dubai and Milan but also due to his personal experiences. “It is so close to my heart because when I was in the States, I was working there. And when I did Milan, it brought me closer to the struggles of every Filipino who chose to leave everything behind to provide for their families in the Philippines,” Piolo said.

He emphasized that he seizes every chance to perform for Filipinos living overseas.
In closing, Piolo revealed that he is “married” to his career. “I’m happy where I am. At this point I never thought I’d stay single. But it is what it is. I don’t want to compromise my work by taking on another “thing”. I’m just really concentrated on what I’m doing. As much as I’m married to my job, I enjoy what I do and I don’t feel that there’s something lacking in my life,” he concluded.
