The cyber libel case against actor Enchong Dee, filed by Congresswoman Claudine Diana Bautista-Lim, remains active, with no plans to withdraw, despite three years passing since the controversial incident.
In 2021, Enchong posted a tweet, now deleted, insinuating that the funds for Bautista-Lim’s lavish wedding at Balesin Island Resort came from the party list DUMPER (Drivers United for Mass Progress and Equal Rights), which she represents. The post caused a stir, leading Bautista-Lim to file a cyber libel case against the actor.
In a recent YouTube vlog, ‘OOTD’ (Oras ng Opinyon, Talakayan at Diskusyon), hosted by Jobert Sucaldito and Direk Chaps Manansala, Sucaldito shared an update on the case after meeting Bautista-Lim during a visit to Congress.
According to Sucaldito, Bautista-Lim revealed that while she has moved on from the issue, her husband, a businessman from a prominent family in Mindanao, remains deeply offended by the actor’s remarks.
Bautista-Lim recounted the emotional toll of the controversy, sharing that the stress nearly caused her to miscarry while she was four months pregnant. Despite Enchong’s public apology, her husband is determined to see the case through.
The congresswoman confirmed that they are demanding P20 million in damages from Enchong, which they intend to donate to scholarships and charitable causes. “Hindi naman daw nila kailangan ‘yung pera kasi they have their own money,” Sucaldito quoted Bautista-Lim as saying, but they feel that the damage caused to their reputation needs to be addressed.
The P20 million demand is reportedly separate from the earlier mentioned P1 billion in damages initially sought when the case was first filed.
As of now, the case continues, with no clear resolution in sight.
