Vic Sotto is set to make his much-anticipated return to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) this December with the film ‘The Kingdom.’
This marks his first MMFF entry in several years, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the festival.
Directed by Michael Tuviera, ‘The Kingdom’ features an impressive ensemble cast, including Piolo Pascual, Cristine Reyes, and Sue Ramirez. Unlike the usual comedy roles that have defined his career, the film takes on a more serious tone, making it a departure from Sotto’s usual comedic performances.
During the film’s press conference, Vic admitted that he initially hesitated when he was first approached for the role.
“When Direk Mike first talked to me about the concept, sabi niya sa ’kin it’s ganito, ganiyan, medyo na-shock ako. Medyo nagdalawang-isip ako kasi it’s a serious film. Sabi nga ni Direk, it’s a non-political, political film. Parang I was asking myself, bagay ba sa ’kin? And another question was — kaya ko ba ‘to?,” shared Vic.
Despite his reservations, Sotto’s decision to join the project was finalized when he learned that fellow actor Piolo Pascual would be part of the film.
“And then finally medyo okey na sa akin. I asked him sinong mga kasama, sinong cast. Sabi ni Direk, ‘We’re negotiating with Piolo Pascual.’ Okey, go na tayo sabi ko. It’s not every movie kasi, we belong in different stations before, so we never had a chance to be together in one film. So this is one pagkakataon na ’di ko kayang palampasin,” he said.
For Vic, the opportunity to collaborate with Piolo, one of the industry’s most respected actors, was a major factor in his decision to take on the project. Despite his initial doubts, Sotto embraced the challenge of tackling a new genre and is eager to showcase his versatility as an actor.
Fans are excited to see a different side of Vic in ‘The Kingdom’, which is set to be one of the standout films in this year’s MMFF lineup. With its compelling storyline and powerhouse cast, the film is expected to draw attention from moviegoers this holiday season.
After more than four decades in the industry, Vic Sotto continues to prove that he is willing to take risks and explore new horizons in his career. ‘The Kingdom’ is sure to be a highlight in the upcoming MMFF, and fans are eagerly awaiting to see what Bossing Vic has in store for them.
Catch The Kingdom in theaters this December 25 and witness Vic Sotto’s exciting new chapter in his storied career.
