Canadian singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Chris LaRocca has announced his next EP, ‘dog years’, which will arrive later this year on Red Bull Records/Wonderchild. Ushering in the new chapter of his artistry, the first single “ladybug” is out now via Red Bull Records/Wonderchild. 
“ladybug” introduces listeners to a version of Chris LaRocca that is raw, introspective, and just a little smitten. The track is reminiscent of a retro sound with modern indie influences, introducing a brighter, bolder era of LaRocca’s music.
Chris LaRocca shares, “When a ladybug lands on you, it’s supposed to be a sign of good luck. This is how I felt when my partner came into my life, seemingly out of nowhere. “ladybug” is an ode to unexpected love, and the places that kind of love can take you to. I wrote this song to honour a moment I will never forget, and to remind the world that the best things come when you least expect them.”
Over the last year, LaRocca took a step back to reflect on the music of generational greats—The Band, The Byrds, MJ Lenderman—who have inspired him to create something just as timeless. Drawing from their influence while staying true to his versatile musicality, he infused the project with the sensibilities of ’70s-era rock and the storytelling of rootsy americana, all while adding his own alt-pop twist.
While sonically this era differs from his previous project, ‘i cried my eyes out’, LaRocca’s authenticity and palpable emotion remains the same. That dynamic energy can be felt in “ladybug”, priming future audiences for the electric live shows he’s become known for.
