In 2017, “Bad Genius”, a Thai movie about a straight-A student who devises a cheating scheme, broke the box office records of all previous Thai movies ever shown in several Asian countries. It is one of the most internationally successful Thai films. In 2020, its series adaptation, “Bad Genius: The Series” garnered awards and accolades, including Best TV Drama Series and Best Screenplay. In 2023, India released their adaptation called “Farrey” in cinemas. And last year, its American remake was shown in cinemas.
This 2025, Studio Viva proudly presents the Philippine adaptation of “Bad Genius: The Series”, with talented showbiz royalty Atasha Muhlach playing the lead role, under the direction of award-winning and blockbuster Derick Cabrido (Star Awards 2024 Movie Director of the Year for the movie “Mallari”, and International Film Fantasy Award 2020 Best Director for the movie “Clarita”).
Atasha will be joined by versatile young actor Jairus Aquino together with newest loveteam, Gab Lagman and Hyacinth Callado. Jairus, Gab and Hyacinth are also part of the University Series streaming on Viva One.
Atasha Muhlach is Lin, an intelligent high school student who gets a scholarship to one of the best private schools in the country. Coming from a public school, she has a lot to adjust to, but she can’t let anyone intimidate her. She is determined to maintain her high grades to keep her scholarship, but she’s also willing to help anyone in need. In fact, she is more than willing as it turns into a full-on money-making scheme.
Jairus Aquino plays Bank, one of the most intelligent students in his batch. Understandably, he sees Lin as competition, but decides to join her “business” because of his severe financial need.
Gab Lagman plays Pat who gets the privilege of studying in a prestigious school only because his family is rich. Although he is struggling in academics, he is undeniably good with money and networking. He serves as the spokesperson to get clients for their cheating scheme.
Hyacinth Callado plays Grace, Pat’s girlfriend and Lin’s first friend in the school. She is the first student that will be helped by Lin. She wants to get high grades to be part of the school’s theater group.
Atasha, Jairus, Gab and Hyacinth are the newest squad to watch out for. They are here to show us the most thrilling high school life one can get, and to shake things up even more are the “Bad Genius” supporting cast.
Romnick Sarmenta and Yayo Aguila play Lin’s parents, Vincent and Winona. Ruffa Gutierrez is the cold and calculating Principal Perez. Irma Adlawan is Nenita, the loving, widowed mother of Bank. Joko Diaz is Philip, Pat’s rich dad. The first clients of Lin and company are Ping, played by Keagan De Jesus, Thirdy, played by Alex Payan and Tony, played by Gold Aceron.
