Rising P-pop group 1621BC ignited the stage at Holic Dance and Night Club in Quezon City on Friday night as they officially launched their second EP, ‘Sapulso’, in front of family, friends, and their devoted fandom known as the “Guardians.”
The six-member group — Pan, Win, Migz, DJ, JM, and JC — performed a dynamic set featuring new tracks from the EP, including ‘Stuck,’ ‘Maria,’ ‘Bagamundo,’ and ‘Bababa.’ These, along with the previously released ‘Diwata’ and ‘Secret,’ complete Sapulso, a record that explores the “complexities of love” through a mix of emotive lyrics and upbeat melodies.
In a pre-event media conference, member DJ explained the meaning behind the title.
“Simple lang po ito kasi lahat ng songs sa EP namin, sapul at namin. So kapag in love ka, kapag may crush ka — sapul sa puso. Kaya Sapulso,” he said.
The group shared how ‘Sapulso’ reflects their evolution as artists following their 2024 debut EP 1621BC.
“During our first EP, we were still figuring out our sound,” said Pan. “But with this second one, we’ve found it. Now, when people hear our songs, they can say, ‘Ah, that’s 1621.’ We’ve found our identity.”
JM echoed this sentiment, highlighting how audience feedback helped shape their sound.
“We tried different genres — darker themes like ‘Bagamundo’ and light bubblegum pop. And we saw online na ito ‘yung bagay sa amin. We feel more confident and comfortable performing these songs,” he shared.
The launch also marked a major streaming milestone: ‘Sapulso’ surpassed 100,000 Spotify streams in less than 24 hours after its release. Star Pop, the group’s label under ABS-CBN, celebrated the feat with an Instagram post thanking fans: “Guardians, we just reached a new milestone together with you.”
1621BC first made waves in 2023 with their debut single ‘Laruan,” followed by their self-titled EP in 2024 that tackled the different stages of young love. Formed through the survival reality show Dream Maker, the group has since carved a promising path in the competitive P-pop industry.
Their latest release not only showcases musical maturity but reinforces their growing influence. In 2024, 1621 received the “P-pop Potential” award at the P-Pop Music Awards and a nomination for “Best New Performance by a Group” at the 37th Awit Awards.
Now with ‘Sapulso’, 1621 proves they’re not just finding their place—they’re claiming it.
