Veteran comedian and actor Michael V., also known as Bitoy, has earned admiration not only for his decades-long showbiz career but also for his unwavering loyalty to his wife, Carolina Bunagan.
In an interview with broadcast journalist Bernadette Sembrano, Bitoy was asked how he remained faithful throughout the years despite having worked with numerous sexy actresses.
“There’s no other way to do it. Pagka husband ka, ‘yan lang ang dapat mong gawin. To be loyal and faithful. That’s how a husband should be,” he said simply.
Bitoy and Carolina have been together for 30 years through civil marriage and 27 years through church vows. Their enduring relationship has been free of scandals and controversies—an increasingly rare feat in the entertainment industry.
According to Bitoy, faithfulness is not a burden but a responsibility. “Walang excuse. Kung asawa ka, magpakatapat ka. Gano’n kasimple,” he emphasized.
In the same interview, the couple shared the story of how their love began as college students. Both were active in school activities and theater productions, which eventually led to their meeting and connection.
“Ano kami, kapareho kami ng school,” Bitoy recalled. “Kapag may projects sila, plays ganyan, kailangan nila ng actors, kami kinukuha nila. Doon kami nagkakilala.”
Carolina also described her husband as a thoughtful partner. “Ang sabi nga ng mga anak ko ang love language niya, he showers you with gifts,” she said, reflecting on their humble beginnings—Bitoy growing up in a tenement and Carolina in Tondo.
The couple celebrated the 25th anniversary of their church wedding with a renewal of vows in February 2023. In April of the same year, they marked 29 years of civil marriage.
On Instagram, Bitoy previously opened up about the highs and lows of their relationship, writing: “Hindi naman kami perfect ni Carolina. Nagtatampuhan din kami, nag-aaway din kami… hindi naman kasi joke ‘yung 29 years na pagsasama! At hindi naman kami mga santo!”
Still, he emphasized that love and consistent effort have been the foundation of their lasting bond.
“‘Pag mahal mo, ipaglalaban mo,” he said. “Communication and honesty—‘yun talaga ang susi. After ng lungkot, natural na bumabalik ang saya. Minsan, dumodoble pa!”
Through his example, Michael V. continues to show that genuine love, respect, and loyalty still have a place in today’s world—on- and off-screen.
