The Kapamilya fandom is celebrating the unexpected return of DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, the iconic radio station once owned and operated by ABS-CBN, which was forced off the air in 2020 following the non-renewal of its broadcast franchise under the Duterte administration.
The revival of DZMM was made possible through a joint venture between the Lopez family and the Romualdez family, an alliance that many netizens found surprising given their political history.
The return of the station through DWPM Radyo 630 and DZMM Teleradyo was confirmed by Philippine Collective Media Corporation (PCMC) and Media Serbisyo Production Corporation, the latter being a joint venture between ABS-CBN and House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s Prime Media Holdings.
Veteran anchors such as Noli de Castro, Charo Santos, Doris Bigornia, and Alvin Elchico are among the returning Kapamilya broadcasters, making the relaunch even more nostalgic for longtime listeners.
The milestone has reignited hopes from supporters who now want ABS-CBN’s main broadcast franchise to be restored. Some see this as a move that could even boost the approval ratings of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Others, however, offered a more cautious take, suggesting that ABS-CBN had already evolved past its need for a free TV franchise.
Still, there are concerns over the lack of competition in free TV, with some saying GMA Network no longer faces pressure to innovate.
