Are young Filipinos done with online dating? Viber Dating offers a resounding ‘no’

Ever scrolled through your feed and wondered if your friends have given up on finding The One these days? Your sixth sense is on point. A 2024 Forbes Health report reveals that 80% of millennials and 79% of Gen Z are feeling the dating app burnout, with almost half reporting that they failed to find a good connection with someone or were disappointed by people as they were ghosted or lied to (read: catfishing and love scams).

Yet, fresh data from Viber Dating offers a much more optimistic narrative: Young Filipinos are still in the game and, yes, still swiping right!

Communications super app Rakuten Viber, which recently launched Viber Dating as its newest in-app feature, reports that young professionals between 25-30 years old are the most active daters. As a feature that focuses on providing a secure and private dating experience for real connections, Viber Dating considers this data a welcoming sign that addressing prevalent online dating burnout begins by prioritizing the users’ needs for safety and genuine interactions.

What the new dating feature also found out is that young Filipinos are so eager to connect, it only takes them around 1.7 days from creating a profile to actually striking up a chat with a potential match. In fact, 92 percent of users start a conversation within 60 seconds after matching. This paints a picture of how Filipinos move in the dating world. They don’t just create dormant profiles. Their purpose is clear: They are actively seeking a potential partner.

What’s more, with a remarkable 1:1 ratio of male to female users, Viber Dating offers a refreshing change from other dating apps typically dominated by men. This ensures more balanced and abundant opportunities for everyone to connect. Users here on average also receive several matches per week. No slim pickings for every hopeless romantic.

Viber Dating was first introduced in the Philippines in February 2025, after a series of focus groups with Filipino Viber users revealed that people look for genuine connections with real people and high-quality matches on online dating, while keeping their lives private.

Having established itself as a secure and privacy-focused feature through a number of strict measures (only verified Viber users can create profiles, all phone numbers are completely hidden, and your dating profile is separate from your main Viber account), Viber Dating puts its users’ minds at ease, protected from being scammed. This makes virtual mingling with real names and faces a more positive, freeing, and worry-free experience. By stripping away the common frustrations that often dampen the joy of modern romance, Viber Dating makes it easier for users to just be themselves.

“We developed Viber Dating to address the pressing concerns of Filipinos in terms of dating, particularly in bolstering security and privacy,” says David Tse, Senior Director at Rakuten Viber APAC. “We launched in the market a few months ago only, but Viber Dating has already empowered many young Filipinos to find genuine connections and embrace the joy of online dating once again—all because we have provided them a safer and convenient dating experience.”
