Singer, cosplayer, and Visayan radio host Debbie Lopez turned 33 recently—and with the celebration came a new chapter in her rising music career.
Known for her debut single ‘Ang Higugmaon Ka’, Debbie is now set to collaborate with OPM icon Mon del Rosario, the songwriter behind classics like ‘Boy’, ‘Tamis Ng Unang Halik’, and ‘Somewhere In My Past’.
Mon was present at Debbie’s intimate birthday celebration, where the announcement was made. The two are slated to work on an upcoming single that continues Debbie’s growing influence in Original Pilipino Music.
At the party, Debbie also revealed that she recently completed an acting workshop under celebrity manager and content creator Ogie Diaz. “He asked me if I wanted to enter showbiz,” Debbie recalled. “At the time, I wasn’t sure. But now, the answer is a resounding yes.”
Despite her plans to explore acting and broader entertainment projects, Debbie confirmed she will continue hosting her Visayan radio show and performing at cosplay events—two platforms that helped her connect with fans nationwide.
A highlight of the celebration was Debbie arriving dressed as Keqing from Genshin Impact, showing her deep commitment to cosplay. “While it looks fun, cosplaying takes a lot of time, research, and money,” she explained, noting that some of her costumes cost hundreds of thousands of pesos.
Of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without music. Debbie performed live, showcasing a vocal style that drew comparisons to Kitchie Nadal, Barbie Almalbis, and Acel Bisa. With her clear pop-alternative tone and heartfelt delivery, Debbie’s performance hinted at her potential to cross genres.
The artist behind ‘Ang Higugmaon Ka’—a Visayan ballad written by Bryan Balucan—Debbie has always been proud of her roots. “This is my tribute to my heritage,” she said in a past interview, emphasizing her choice to keep the song in Visayan despite industry norms favoring Tagalog or English tracks.
Born in the Visayas and now based in Baguio, Debbie was influenced early on by her musician uncle, Dr. Noni Espina, and a childhood experience in Jamaica that led to formal training at an international music school. Over time, she found her voice through livestreams and community gigs, eventually earning several awards, including: Philippines Choice Award for Promising Recording Artist of the Year (2023), Vietnam International Achievers Award for Asia’s Most Remarkable Multi-Talented Artist (2023) and Most Exceptional Recording Artist of the Year (2024).
As she expands into acting and prepares for a new track under the guidance of a legendary composer, Debbie Lopez remains a proud advocate of regional representation in OPM. With her star rising steadily, the birthday girl is proving that every milestone is a chance to amplify her message: music rooted in identity, driven by heart.
Happy birthday, Debbie—and here’s to more songs, more stages, and more stories to tell.
