Sparkle artist Emman Atienza took to TikTok on Thursday, Aug. 28, to clarify long-standing rumors about her family’s finances, stressing that her lifestyle is not funded by politicians or corruption.

The actress recalled the backlash she received during the viral “Guess the Bill” controversy in 2024, when she and her friends revealed a dinner bill of more than ₱130,000. Many netizens at the time questioned the source of her wealth, with some claiming it came from political ties.
“One of the most frustrating pieces of misinformation that was spread about me during the ‘Guess the bill’ controversy, when everyone was hating on me in the Philippines—because trust me, there was so much misinformation that I was genuinely considering getting lawyers involved—was that my lifestyle, my schooling, my house, my travels, my clothes, etcetera, are funded by politicians, are funded by the government, are funded by corruption,” she said.
Atienza acknowledged her family’s links to politics, being the granddaughter of former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza and niece to Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza and Councilor Maile Atienza, but clarified that her immediate family does not rely on them financially.
“Yes, my one grandfather and my aunts and uncles on my dad’s side are in politics,” she said. “But I want to make it so clear that my immediate family, my sister, my brother, me, my mom, my dad, do not get any financial support of any means from that side of the family.”
Emman credited her mother, Felicia Hung-Atienza, as their household’s breadwinner.
“My mom is the breadwinner, meaning she brings home the money. Her family is not in any way, shape, or form related to politicians. She came from a Taiwanese family; she studied hard in school and attended an Ivy League university, where she majored in finance. She became a stockbroker, invested in a bunch of different things. Started two schools and now, she’s getting her second master’s degree in Harvard,” she explained.

She also highlighted the career of her father, TV host Kim Atienza.
“My dad has been in entertainment on TV, I’m sure you know, for decades, for years,” she said.
Before ending her video, Emman firmly reiterated: “We do not get financial support from any of my extended family.”
Her father quickly expressed support in the comments section of her TikTok post, writing: “thank you emman.”
