James Reid is opening up about his biggest goal in life — becoming a father — and credits girlfriend Issa Pressman for inspiring the dream.
In a recent interview with broadcast journalist Karen Davila, the actor-singer revealed that his current relationship has reshaped his priorities. “My biggest goal is to be a father someday. I think that’s taken over my priority list, as something that I want to do and be very good at it,” he shared. “That’s something that my current relationship with Issa kind of brought out in me.”
When asked what he loves most about Pressman as a partner, Reid was quick to respond. “She gives me a reason to want to be my best. I can’t explain that, but she’s one of the only people that really make me want to be better than my shortcomings, my insecurities, my fears. That’s really special. I think that’s love.”
While fans have speculated about a possible engagement or even pregnancy, James subtly dismissed the rumors: “I’ve been seeing a lot of stuff online. They also say that we’re pregnant. But I think when I’m ready to talk about something like that, you’ll be the first to know.”
Now two years into their relationship, James affirmed he is “very much in love” and serious about building a future with Issa.
He also revealed that Pressman has become the inspiration behind much of his recent music, including his latest single ‘Pahinga,’ a collaboration with TJ Monterde. “Siya talaga ‘yung inspiration for a lot of the songs I’ve written. Actually, all of the songs I’ve written recently,” he admitted.
Quoting his favorite lyric from ‘Pahinga’, James shared: “‘Ikaw ay mas mahalaga kaysa sa maging tama.’” He explained, “Sometimes you just want to be right even if it comes at the expense of your partner. You realize this argument is stupid. I don’t care about being right. In fact, you’re more important than this argument right now. And I think that’s been a secret to a very strong relationship.”
In the same interview, the Randomatic artist reflected on his personal mantra: “To be healthy, wealthy, and wise.” He elaborated that health allows him to fully enjoy life, wealth refers to love, relationships, and creative abundance, while wisdom means learning from past mistakes to grow stronger.
James also addressed his much-publicized past relationship with Nadine Lustre, calling it “something special” but also difficult. “There was a lot of toxic culture around it. It can’t be that big and culturally impactful without having a downside. I think it was mentally stressful for me and Nadine. And it opened up a lot of toxic kinds of behavior with the audience. But I think we’ve all learned a lot since then,” he said.
He confirmed they are on civil terms: “I’ve seen her a few times, and we’re civil. There’s no problem, certainly with me. You know, I wish her all the best. She seems very happy.”
Lustre is currently in a relationship with Filipino-French businessman Christophe Bariou.
