Michael V, known to millions as Bitoy, is celebrating two major milestones this year: 30 years with GMA Network and 30 years of ‘Bubble Gang,’ the Philippines’ longest-running gag show.

On Monday, the multi-awarded comedian and “Comedy Genius” renewed his ties with GMA Network in a contract signing attended by top Kapuso executives and the current ‘Bubble Gang’ cast.
“Thirty years—as long as it may seem—napaka-fruitful non, kasi it gave me the opportunity to learn from GMA, and nakita ko yung growth ng GMA, so parang magkatuwang talaga kami ng network,” said Michael V, born Beethoven del Valle Bunagan.
GMA Chairman Felipe Gozon called hiring him in 1995 “one of the best decisions that GMA has ever made,” while GMA President and CEO Gilberto Duavit Jr. hailed Bitoy as a “living legend” and “creative force” who has cemented the network’s dominance in comedy.
Bitoy, now 55, credited his wife and manager, Carolina Bunagan, for being the “wind beneath my wings.” He shared, “Di maikakaila yung malaking tulong na nagawa ng GMA to my career, and I would say GMA ang nagbigay ng freedom sakin to spread my wings, at ang hangin, Misis ko naman (nag-provide).”

The contract signing coincides with preparations for ‘BG30: Batang Bubble Ako,’ a full-blown anniversary concert this October. The celebration promises superstar guests and the return of former cast members dating back to the show’s 1995 premiere.
Michael V also teased upcoming projects, including possible films for his iconic characters Mr. Assimo and Pepito Manaloto. He revealed that a Mr. Assimo script is already in development, while the Pepito film is still in early talks.
Despite three decades of success, Bitoy said the challenges of comedy have grown more complex. “Talagang mahirap na maging komedyante ngayon. Pinapatatahimik yung mga may utak para hindi ma-offend yung mga walang utak,” he quipped, while stressing the importance of responsible humor.
For him, family and fan appreciation remain his greatest rewards. “My family, of course. And knowing that I’ve given everything I can for this industry that I love. When people appreciate it, when I read positive comments, that’s enough. I’m already happy.”
