Before she became the “Island Ate ng Cebu” and a rising Sparkle star, Shuvee Etrata endured years of bullying because of her looks.

In a recent episode of ‘Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho’, the ‘Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre’ actress opened up about being teased as a child while living in her father’s hometown of Polomolok, South Cotabato.
“Binully ako kasi maitim tapos malaking nguso,” Shuvee admitted, recalling how her skin color and lips made her a target.
But things changed when she moved to Bantayan Island, Cebu, where she felt more accepted and loved. She credited this to her grandmother, Lola Pipi, who became her source of comfort.
“You’ll always go to a place where you feel most loved. And doon ko naramdaman ‘yun sa isla. Kasi nandoon ‘yung lola ko na paborito ako,” she shared.
Remembering her fondest moments with her grandmother, Shuvee grew emotional as she revealed how painful it was to lose her during the pandemic. “When I lost her, I almost lost myself… pero alam ko masaya ‘yun. Siguro nagche-cheer ‘yun ngayon,” she said tearfully.
Despite the bullying she experienced growing up, Shuvee has turned her pain into strength—embracing her identity as a proud morena and carving her own space in the entertainment industry.
