A now-viral TikTok video showing an unexpected encounter between Kapuso stars Vanessa Peña and Kyline Alcantara at the GMA Gala 2025 has taken social media by storm, amassing 5.8 million views (and counting).
The brief clip, captured at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City on August 2, shows Vanessa walking out of the program hall just as Kyline stood outside. The two stars appeared visibly surprised upon seeing each other, leading to what netizens described as an “awkward stare-down.”
The video quickly sparked speculation online—were they surprised to see each other? Was there tension? Or was it simply the result of them wearing surprisingly similar gowns?
Vanessa Peña herself took to TikTok to clarify the moment, commenting with a lighthearted “HAHAHAHAHAHAHA ,” signaling that she, too, was amused by how viral the clip had become.
She later explained the story behind her outfit: “Hello everyone! Hindi po kami same ng designer ni Miss Kyline I’m wearing a Modista gown designed by Miss Jema Gamer from La Union, and this actual garment won 2nd runner-up in the Tennun Pakaradjaan Fashion Design Competition 2024,” Vanessa wrote on her TikTok account.
“I’m wearing Isletas de Perlas. Basilan is an island in the southern Philippines, known for its strength and beauty. Nearby are the Isletas de Perlas, or ‘Islands of Pearls,’ famous for their black freshwater pearls. ”
Meanwhile, Kyline Alcantara—long known for her standout fashion statements at the annual gala—wore a structural column gown by Anne Ibiza. The piece featured intricate beadwork inspired by cathedral stained-glass windows, styled with a military-style bolero and sleek chignon that completed her sophisticated, edgy look.

Though the similarity in color palettes between the two gowns wasn’t intentional, it was enough to fuel curiosity and reactions from fashion-watchers and fans alike.
Despite the social media chatter, there appears to be no drama between the two. Vanessa Peña, a fast-rising Sparkle teen artist known for her bubbly personality and expressive acting, continues to grow in her career. She got her break in the Kapuso suspenserye ‘Widows’ Web’ and is a proud member of ‘Sparkada’, a group of young talents mentored by Johnny “Mr. M” Manahan.
In a past interview during ‘Sparkada’s’ media launch, Vanessa shared her passion for acting and her dream role: “’Yung role po na gusto ko is ’yung inaapi. Gusto ko po ’yung parang sasampal-sampalin po ako. Gusto ko po ’yung mga api.”
