Actress Claudine Barretto candidly admitted that she considers herself “tatanga-tanga” when it comes to handling money, after revealing she lost ₱15 million to someone she once considered a close friend.
In her guest appearance on Ogie Diaz and Inah Evans’ online show ‘The Issue Is You’, uploaded on YouTube last Saturday, Barretto shared that it was not a loan but money she entrusted for investment.
“Ang name niya ay K,” Claudine disclosed. “₱15 million, actually hindi utang, ipinagkatiwala ko ‘yun for an investment. So, hi K!”
When asked by Ogie why she was now demanding payment, Barretto said: “Dini-deny niya. Pagtawag niya sa akin, ‘hello ate’, pinagmumura ko na siya. Pero naka-sign siya lahat, kumpleto resibo, may notary.”
She added that despite complete documents, the person still denied the transaction: “Dine-deny niya siguro pag umabot sa korte, siyempre pag binasa mo mga message, pero kumpleto (dokumento) naman.”
Barretto recalled they had already faced each other at the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation), where “K” issued several checks.
“‘Huwag, K huwag,’ naawa pa ako sa ’yo, apat ang anak mo rin, apat din ang anak ko. Kung maayos ka makipag-usap sa akin, okay. Nagbigay siya ng mga tseke, nag-bounce lahat, so ‘yun!”
The actress admitted her own fault: “Actually, kasalanan ko rin kasi nagtiwala ako agad-agad. Marami kaming nagtiwala, pinsan siya ng isa sa pinaka-closest friend ko na sister talaga ang turing ko, si Doc Hazel.”
Barretto also shared that “K” even claimed her money was invested in a business owned by former politician Chavit Singson. But when they approached him, Claudine said, “Sinungaling ka! … at pinaalis sa bahay ni Manong Chavit dahil ipapalapa siya sa Jaguar.”
Claudine, a mother of four, made a direct plea: “Sana, sana, apat din ang anak ko K. Mag-sorry ka na lang at huwag kang magbigay ng tsekeng magba-bounce, ‘yun lang ‘yun.”
The actress also took the chance to dismiss malicious rumors linking her to gambling.
“Sa totoo lang kahit anong explanation ng mga tao (paano magsugal), hindi ko nage-gets. Hindi ko talaga makuha (Baccarat), saka kuripot ako, siguro nai-intimidate ako pag maraming tao. Wala naman tsismis na nagsusugal ako. Saka wala akong pangsugal,” she clarified, laughing.
