It was a heartfelt reunion for ‘Be Careful With My Heart’ onscreen sisters Maya and Kute as Ice Seguerra guested on Jodi Sta. Maria’s vlog ‘Let’s Drink To That.’ While reminiscing about their time together in the hit daytime drama, Ice also shared his long, personal battle with Type 2 diabetes.

The singer-actor revealed he was diagnosed more than a decade ago, when he was still in his 30s. But at the time, he admitted he didn’t take the condition seriously.
“Wala akong pake kasi para sa akin, kapag wala akong napi-feel na anything physical, kebs,” Ice said, recalling his carefree mindset back then. “Alam mo ‘yung mga tsokolateng ganyan [kahaba], isang kainan ‘yan sa akin.”
Ice admitted he only began treatment when symptoms such as itchiness from high blood sugar started to appear. Still, it took a tragic wake-up call to finally make him reconsider his health choices.
“Siguro ang pinaka wake-up call na mayroon akong nakita na colleague na naputulan ng paa and two days after, I saw another art card saying na she passed away,” he said. “Pagkadating ko sa doctor, mag-insulin ka na.”
Despite the challenges of living with a chronic illness, Ice now approaches the journey with a sense of acceptance and humor. “I think I have a good run with my favorite things in the world,” he quipped, referring to his sweet tooth.
The conversation also highlighted the deep respect between the two former co-stars. Jodi praised Ice’s depth and wisdom, saying, “What I appreciate about Ice is I enjoy talking to him… basically, anything under the sun napag-uusapan na namin. Ang lalim niya kasing tao.”
In turn, Ice expressed admiration for Jodi’s genuine kindness on set: “Noong nakasama ko siya, mas lalong lumalim ‘yung respeto ko sa kaniya hindi lang bilang artista kung hindi bilang tao kasi she really cares for people sa set.”
As Ice continues to manage his health, Jodi left him with a reminder that carried both sisterly warmth and nostalgia from their ‘Be Careful With My Heart’ days: “Kute, please be careful with your health.”
