Far Eastern University (FEU) announces two public lectures to celebrate the centennial of Art Deco and inaugurate FEU, the Art Deco University, a four-year long exhibition on the university’s involvement with a century old artistic movement.
Heritage advocate and founder of Old Manila Walks Ivan Man Dy will Deliver Art Deco Lifestyle: Modern Living 1925-1950 at 10:30 AM on 25 Nov. at FC Auditorium. Man Dy is co-author with Gerard Lico in Deco Filipino: Art Deco Heritage in the Philippines 1925-1950. He is the special guest curator of “Art Deco: Design and Modernity 1925-2025” at the National Art Gallery, the National Museum of the Philippines’ commemorative exhibition for the Art Deco centennial that opened recently.
Heritage architect and educator in architectural history, Architect Paolo Andrew Hasegawa will deliver Deco and Democracy: Designing Provincial Capitol Buildings in the American Colonial Period at 3 PM on 25 Nov. at the University Library’s Special Collections Room. Architect Hasegawa is a contributor and advocate in Southeast Asia’s heritage and sustainability advocacy, serving as a Board of Trustee for the Heritage Conservation Society and contributing to the Southeast Asian Cultural Heritage Alliance.
The exhibition on the Art Deco Elements of the five UNESCO recognized Heritage Structures of the university taken from the lens of Zymon Bumatay opens at 10 AM at the Ground Floor Lobby of the Administration Building. The University Library and the Corporate Affairs are sponsoring the events.
