Los Angeles-based galactic dream rock artist and livestreamer POLARTROPICA, previously crowned LA Weekly’s Best Indie Pop Band, has created a genre of ethereal synth psychedelia that you’ve never heard before.
Polartropica’s music has been featured in NYLON and NPR as well as landing acclaim from the likes of Billboard and LADYGUNN, with her latest music video nominated for Berlin Music Video Awards among others, she is an artist on the rise not to be missed.
Most recently, she was inducted as a member of the Recording Academy, with a SXSW tour with shows in LA, San Diego, and Austin (including an official showcase for LUSH UK). They have also headlined the Troubadour, The Paramount and LA PRIDE’s Hollywood Main Stage, in addition to opening for Poppy at The Novo (Los Angeles) and House of Blues (San Diego).
Polartropica’s music can be heard in NPR/Capradio’s theme for MIDPACIFIC Podcast “Can’t Hold Us Back”, Blumhouse Horror feature film UNSEEN with “Give Them Hell”, and A24’s HOW TO BLOW UP A PIPELINE which features track “Terminator.”
Her new single “Shiny Things” is in collaboration with Americana artist Gilbert Louie Ray. She shares, “the song was inspired by my father’s love for John Denver and his beautiful cinematic melodies I grew up listening to, as well as sweet classic harmonies of the Everly Brothers and surfy electric guitars of Beach Boys.” With banjo and acoustic guitar by Gilbert Louie Ray and electric guitars by Brandon Graham who also engineered and mixed the track, the song is a genre-defying banger. The track details the heart-crushing pain that sometimes happens at the end of falling in love. Polartropica further confides, “This song is about eventually finding it in your heart to learn and grow from all the hard lessons and finally let go with a sense of understanding and acceptance, which is a journey in itself, and coming back home to yourself with love and forgiveness.”
“Shiny Things” is shared alongside a music video that is a swashbuckling adventure of a legendary, toasty pirate of the Salton Sea who gets a parking ticket on her ship. The cinematic video was filmed and directed by Tristan Pelletier on the hottest day of summer in the desert.
