Former ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ housemate Fumiya Sankai and actress Kate Valdez have officially confirmed the end of their romantic relationship, following weeks of speculation from netizens.

The former couple announced their split through a joint statement released on their respective Instagram accounts on Sunday, February 8, clarifying that the decision was mutual and amicable.
“Following considerable thought, we have mutually decided to go our separate ways. This decision was made with respect, understanding, and care for one another,” they said.
They further explained that their breakup was necessary for their individual growth, allowing both of them time and space to heal and focus on self-development.
“We believe that this step is necessary for our personal growth, as we each need time and space to focus on healing and self-development,” the statement read.
Sankai and Valdez also addressed the confusion caused by their recent silence and online activity, acknowledging that it led to various assumptions.
“We want to acknowledge the confusion and speculation caused by our silence and recent changes online. We understand that this has led to various conclusions. This was never our intention,” they said.
While they did not directly address specific rumors, the statement came amid cheating allegations that surfaced after netizens noticed Valdez liking comments that mentioned “cheating” and being a “red flag.” The two emphasized that there is no bitterness between them.
Despite the breakup, the pair expressed gratitude to their supporters and asked for continued understanding.
“We truly appreciate your love and continued support, not as a couple, but as individuals walking our own paths. May we continue to share love,” they added.
Sankai and Valdez began dating in 2024. In a previous interview with Boy Abunda, they shared that they first met through a common friend and transitioned from friendship to a relationship without traditional courtship—something Sankai explained is not customary in Japanese culture.
Sankai rose to fame as part of ‘Pinoy Big Brother: Otso’, where he was a member of Team LAYF alongside Lou Yanong, André Brouillette, and eventual big winner Yamyam Gucong.
Breakup rumors first intensified in January after netizens noticed that Sankai and Valdez had unfollowed each other on Instagram.
