The convention hall buzzed with creativity and energy as the KatHABI Textile Innovation Exposition displayed vibrant fabrics, intricate weaves, and innovative materials crafted from locally sourced fibers.
Jeepney-inspired colors, traditional patterns, and upcycled materials reflected the ingenuity and sustainability that define modern Philippine textiles. Visitors explored booths and watched live demonstrations, gaining insights into how centuries-old weaving techniques and scientific innovation merge to create textiles that are both beautiful and functional.
Sessions highlighted the role of Philippine tropical fabrics in supporting inclusive economic growth, sustainability, and cultural preservation. Conversations delved into upcycling, climate-conscious production, and entrepreneurship opportunities for communities rooted in traditional textile craftsmanship. Emerging technologies in protective gear, medical applications, and daily wear demonstrated how local textiles can extend beyond fashion into practical and socially impactful solutions.
The convention’s finale, a contemporary fashion show, brought together reimagined government uniforms and lifestyle designs that paid homage to Filipino heritage while embracing modern trends. Attendees admired the craftsmanship and innovation, witnessing how Telang Pinoy can thrive in international markets while empowering local weavers and designers. The DOST-PTRI Diamond Anniversary added a celebratory touch, honoring decades of research, collaboration, and service to the industry.
