“Warat”, originally a Joel Lamangan film that centered on seduction, ambition and betrayal back in the late ‘90s, is getting a reboot on VMX, under the direction of Christian Paolo Lat, with Margaret Diaz and Itan Rosales in the lead roles once portrayed by Joyce Jimenez and Jomari Yllana.
Living with her abusive aunt, Rica (Margaret Diaz), has learned to be tough. Beautiful and alluring, she’s well aware that men desire her, and she uses it to her advantage. But deep inside, she’s actually hiding her vulnerability.
Rex (Itan Rosales) is wrongfully accused of killing his father, although he really does live a life of crime for easy money. He vehemently insists his innocence to Monteiro (Marco Goimez), a cop who is determined to put him in jail. It doesn’t help that the girl (Christy Imperial) whom he is having an affair with is about to give a false testimony against him.
When Rica and Rex meet, there’s an instant attraction. Rica recklessly gets involved with Rex, seeing him as a way to escape her miserable life with her aunt. But one day, she realizes she’s gotten herself into a toxic relationship. Worse, she realizes their affair should never have happened.

Streaming on February 27, “Warat” explores the harsh reality that sometimes, the people we believe will save us are the very ones who lead us to destruction. Follow Rica and Rex’s story and discover if there’s still room for love and healing in the path they’ve chosen.
