  • We give you 10 Reasons Why ‘Aurora’ Is A Must-Watch This Christmas!

Viva Films and Aliud Entertainment gives Pinoy audiences a chilling Christmas treat with their horror thriller film, ‘Aurora‘. The film is directed by Yam Laranas and stars Anne Curtis in the lead role. It is an official entry to the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival.

We give you 10 Reasons Why ‘Aurora‘ Is A Must-Watch This Christmas!

10. Elevated Horror?

Anne Curtis mentioned that her film ‘Aurora’ is not your typical horror film. She said that Yam Laranas, the director of the movie, calls it an ‘elevated horror‘. She elaborated that the film is not focused on cheap scares and shocks. Instead, the film will focus on atmosphere and dread to scare its audiences.

9. A Horror Treat for Christmas .

Filipinos love a good scare. No wonder why there’s always a horror film in every edition of the annual Metro Manila Film Festival. This year, we have two horror movie entries- one of which is the Anne Curtis-starrer ‘Aurora‘.

8. The Mystical Beauty of Batanes.

The film is set in an island where the main protagonist, Leana lives. The film uses the idyllic location of Batanes as its backdrop. The film has plenty of gorgeous aerial views and dramatic wide shots that perfectly captures the province’s mystic beauty- quiet, serene yet mysterious.

7. Anne’s Return to Horror.

Anne Curtis is no stranger to the horror genre. Back in 2000, she starred in the horror flick ‘Ika-13 Kapitulo‘ together with Zsa Zsa Padilla, Christopher De Leon and Albert Martinez. She played a girl possessed by a demon in the film. In 2006, she played a killer nurse in the supernatural horror flick ‘Wag Kang Lilingon‘. And in 2014, she was featured in the independent American thriller vampire romance film ‘Blood Ransom‘ directed by Francis dela Torre and opposite German-born Hollywood actor Alexander Dreymon. This year, she returns to the horror genre thru ‘Aurora‘.

6. The Unique and Unusual Story.

The film revolves around the passenger ship Aurora, which mysteriously collides into the rocky sea threatening an entire island. A young woman named Leana (played by Anne Curtis) and her sister must both survive by finding the missing dead for a bounty.

5. The Powerhouse Cast.

The film features some of the country’s veteran actors, led by Mercedes Cabral, Sue Prado, Allan Paule, Ricardo Cepeda, Ruby Ruiz, Andrea Del Rosario, Arnold Reyes and Phoebe Villamor. Mercedes Cabral is known for her award-winning arthouse and independent films, notably those by Brillante Mendoza (Serbis, Kinatay, Captive, and Thy Womb) and she also appeared in the South Korean film ‘Thirst‘ directed by Park Chan-Wook. Sue Prado is an acclaimed Filipino character actress known for her films like ‘Oror‘, ‘Barber’s Tales‘ and the recent Cinemalaya hit ‘Liway‘.

4. A Winning Streak for Anne.

‘Aurora‘ will be Anne Curtis‘ third and last film this 2018. The first two were both critically acclaimed box-office hits: the romance film ‘Sid and Aya: Not A Love Story‘ opposite Dingdong Dantes and the action thriller ‘BuyBust‘ from director Erik Matti.

3. Yam Laranas.

Yam Laranas is the acclaimed director of the Richard Gutierrez/ Angel Locsin-starrer ‘Sigaw‘ (2004) and its English-language remake ‘The Echo‘ (2008), and the GMA Films horror ‘The Road‘ (2011). He has gained a bit of a following outside the country because of his films in the horror genre. His last film was the Sinag Maynila 2018 mystery film ‘Abomination‘.

2. Marco Gumabao.

Marco Gumabao is on the roll this 2018 after starring in two Viva Films projects: the comedy film ‘Abay Babes‘ and the romance film ‘Para sa Broken Hearted‘. This December, he is part of the horror thriller ‘Aurora‘ as he plays Ricky. He is currently part of the ABS-CBN teleserye ‘Los Bastardos‘ and will be starring in the Nadine Lustre-starrer ‘Ulan‘ next year.

1. Anne Curtis.

Anne Curtis stars as Leana in the horror thriller ‘Aurora‘. The film marks her return to the MMFF after her 2008 drama film ‘Baler‘, an official entry to the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival. This is also her third horror film under Viva Films, following ‘Ika-13 Kapitulo‘ (2000) and ‘Wag Kang Lilingon‘ (2006).
