What FDCP has to say about Erik Matti’s concern

  • This concern was said by Matti following the decrease of interest of Filipinos to pay and watch in cinemas with the increase of the competition from online movie streaming
  • “I think what we need to do is to work together as stakeholders, as NCAP, producer and FDCP are talking on how we can come up with a collective solution lowering prices (of tickets), creating a promo, creating event driven activities, so that we can drive everyone to the cinemas.”

Liza Diño, chairperson of Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), answered the concern that Erik Matti had raised in saying, “We cannot go on making movies where no one sees them.”

This concern was said by Matti following the decrease of interest of Filipino moviegoers to pay and watch in the cinemas, with the increase of the competition from online movie streaming.

Finally, the chairperson of FDCP has something to say about this.

According to her, as part of the showbiz industry, FDCP still supports the Filipino films. “Ang ginagawa po ng FDCP, in terms of supporting our filmmakers, is to open to an idea or to the concept that films are not consumed in cinemas or look at the cinemas kapag magpapalabas ng pelikula, ngayon. Content is content regardless of kung saang platform,” said Liza.

Even if the struggle is not that easy, the agency is still doing its best to lift up Filipino films. “I think what we need to do is to work together as stakeholders, as NCAP, producer and FDCP are talking on how we can come up with a collective solution lowering prices (of tickets), creating a promo, creating event driven activities, so that we can drive everyone to the cinemas,” she continued.

Here the agency gave an explanation on the current problem that they see in the industry.

“Ang nangyayari po kasi ngayon, pababa po ang mga budget ng pelikula, imbes na itinataas natin ang kalidad dahil ang mga kalaban natin na foreign (films) ang tataas ng budget, ang tataas ng quality. Pababa naman po ang budget ng mga pelikula natin, which I know na ganun po ang nangyayari,” Liza explained.

They still hope that the different movie producers will also help in facing the struggle the Filipino filmmakers are experiencing.
