After following the series of flopped films, Nadine Lustre, Carlo Aquino pressured on ‘Ulan’ screening in cinemas?

  • ‘Ulan’ is to be released on the big screen next to the box-office hit Alone/Together
  • Will the film ‘Ulan’ successfully make the target and finally break the ‘alarming situation’ of the local film industry?
  • The film is directed by box-office director Irene Villamor

Viva Films’ much awaited upcoming movie ‘Ulan,’ starring two of the hottest stars Nadine Lustre and Carlo Aquino, is nearing its screening on March 13.

The film is directed by one of the box-office hit directors, Irene Villamor. This will be the next movie to test the local film industry’s impact on the Filipino viewers. We cannot deny the fact that the first  few local films released this year all flopped in the cinemas.

It was only the film of actors Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, ‘Alone/Together,’ that put the local film industry to its heights again, after the series of unsuccessful screenings of the past films in cinemas.

Considering that the director is known to have produced hits in cinemas, the pressure on maintaining its title is there even though Villamor doesn’t take such a recognition.

The director just wants the netizens to stay-tuned to their upcoming film, and she hopes that they will like the magic realism concept that she has put in the movie.

It was previously observed that the local film industry is in ‘dire situation’ after a series of films flopped in the movie theaters. Many personalities in the film industry expressed their sentiments online, including Erik Matti who is among the most-recognized movie directors of today.

It was observed that in the past three weeks of screening local movies, those did not make good business despite the all-out marketing fanfare. This alarmed local artists gave various reasons regarding the cause of such downfall. But despite the hurdles, filmmakers continuously do their best with their craft.

The teaser for the film ‘Ulan’ was already released and it created a lot of speculations. The moments revealed in the three-minute trailer are even more conspicuous. What makes this film different from other romantic movies is that it features mythical elements: Humpty Dumpty-like characters, tikbalangs, and a scorned, weeping creature.

The story will be around Maya (Lustre), a girl who has always held a pessimistic view of the rain, reminding her of failed love and other depressing things. Will the rain ever stop her on her journey to overcome past heartaches?
