My Little Bossings: Overly Commercialized Comedy

MOVIE REVIEW: My Little Bossings

Being that child wonder Ryzza is in the cast, My Little Bossings looked to be a promising movie. Only that, it failed to bank on the greatness of its “little bossings” that it appeared too cheap… and too commercialized.
It’s a Kris Aquino-Vic Sotto team-up, and one can only expect cheesy comedy lines… The movie has no artistic sense at all. The writers failed to offer witty and mind-boggling stunts to make it interesting. What surprised me is that it worked for me on the most dramatic parts of it, courtesy of the then child-star, Aiza Seguerra. Her inclusion in the cast is definitely note-worthy.

The Plot

Torky (Vic Sotto) is Baba’s (Kris Aquino) personal bookkeeper. His goal is to travel around the world after his wife died due to car accident. Baba is the half-sister of Marga (Jaclyn Jose); the latter sets up Baba to take all the blame.  Marga is threatening her that if she denies all the charges against her, she will cause serious threat to her and her son, Justin (Bimby Aquino).

Baba entrusts her son to Torky and things get complicated. Torky’s daughter, Aiza (Aiza Seguerra) returned to his home with Ching (Ryzza Mae Dizon) – an orphan from the same orphanage she was in a few years back. Forced to live with each other, with parent-child conflict amidst all the hullaballoo, the four just can’t get along.

The Concept

It wasn’t really a bad idea to bank on such a controversial topic similar to the Napoles scam. The concept is even very vulnerable of hardcore comedic moments, at the same time, drama. Sloppy execution killed the film as it lacked fluidity. We don’t even know the story on how Baba plans to clear her name. It would be great to see more of Baba’s activity in the movie. The worst part is that we don’t even get to know the real motives of her half-sister. She doesn’t have concrete plans on how she’ll be able to make of all her plans come true.

What’s good? The family drama context in the movie courtesy of Aiza Seguerra. It’s a must-see how natural her acting is, except for the part that these parts became a bit corny placed in between sloppy comedy scenes.

The Commercialized Movie

A lot of people were disgruntled with the list of product endorsement scattered almost every five minutes into the movie.

The bad side? It showed that the film is more conscious about selling products rather than tell a good story and offer quality production. Blatant product placements were sneaked into the movie, which made the entire movie a lot more awkward than it originally is. And this ruined the emotional core of the scenes prior to it.

The Cast

You would be asking whether which comic icon Vic Sotto is imitating with all of the scenes. The starter scene shows a bit of Adam Sandler/Jim Carrey acting while there were some when you can relate his style to Dolphy/Babalu acting.

Aiza Seguerra and the little bossings definitely saved the movie. Ryzza Mae is just too cute and charismatic on-screen that whatever she does, it’s effective. Aiza Seguerra will offer you tearjerker scenes but the film just really didn’t help her out to convey what needs to be felt at the moment. Bimby Aquino is a fresh addition, but needs a lot of polishing.

It was a nice touch to figure out in the end what the core of the movie is, and you’ll be dumbfounded as you realize that the entire thing could have been a lot better if it had focused on the issues revealed at the latter part of the film.

All in all, My Little Bossings is definitely a nice family treat. But, it’s a waste of money if you’re really looking for something that will entice you generally. With the resolution being hurried and little to nothing in character development, it’s such as downer. The film’s there for profit so that alone should disappoint any viewer who wants to just really be entertained.
