Award-winning broadcast journalist Karen Davila and veteran entertainment executive Deo Endrinal are among this year’s honorees in the 2020 Glory Awards.

The two respected names in Philippine media from ABS-CBN will be recognized with four other distinguished alumni of the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication for putting out work that goes beyond “the usual” consistent track record of excellence.

Karen, the awardee for the broadcast journalism category, currently anchors “Headstart” on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), where she interviews newsmakers about current and controversial issues.

The multi-awarded media veteran is also known for her brave and enlightening stories before for the ABS-CBN investigative documentary program “The Correspondents,” and her masterful work as moderator of presidential debates and sessions in the World Economic Forum-East Asia Summit.

Karen was also recognized in both the TOYM (The Outstanding Young Men) and TOWNS (The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service) and was named Journalist of the Year by the Rotary Club of Manila in 2004.

Deo, on the other hand, is the awardee in the Television Arts category. The head of the ABS-CBN content production unit Dreamscape Entertainment is behind many of the network’s hit programs on television and digital, including the phenomenal series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” which recently celebrated its fifth year.

He started out as a writer before jumping to producing well-loved and iconic shows in different genres such as “The Buzz,” “Game Ka Na Ba?,””ASAP,” “Mula sa Puso,” “May Bukas Pa,” and “The General’s Daughter” in his three decades with the Kapamilya network. Deo also led Dreamscape’s foray into the digital platform in 2018 with the much-talked about film “Glorious” and continues to push for online content such as “Love Lockdown,” which was produced in the middle of the pandemic.

The Glory Awards is organized by the UP College of Mass Communication (CMC) Alumni Association yearly in honor of the institution’s first dean, Dr. Gloria Feliciano. The other winners this year are Dr. Rey de la Cruz (special education), Dr. Monina Movido-Escalada (development communication), Lutgardo Labad (arts and culture advocacy), and Criselda Yabes (literary journalism).

They were chosen by jurors comprised of broadcast news veteran Jing Magsaysay, UP CMC dean and film professor Dr. Arminda Santiago, UP CMC communication research department chairperson Dr. Julienne Thesa Baldo-Cubelo, PR expert and former UP vice president for public affairs Tessa Jazmines, writer-director and 2019 Glory awardee Floy Quintos, film and TV director, writer and educator Jose Javier Reyes, and 2018 Glory awardee Luz Rimban, executive director of the Asian Center for Journalism at Ateneo de Manila University.
