The Singaporean-based ASEAN Studies Centre recently released an assessment of Southeast Asian countries that had an effective response against the pandemic.
Called Best Leadership, the list shows which country were the best and the worst infighting Covid-19. And among the countries listed, Philippines, was placed last, meaning the country has ‘ineffective’ leadership against the coronavirus.
Now, the Philippines was given 0.5% in responding to the pandemic. As a result, Netizens and personalities ridiculed the claim of the DDS that Duterte is the ‘best and the brightest’ President the country has.

Former PTV4 anchor Jules Guiang roasted the DDS, whose main argument is the number of respondents in said survey. However, Guiang responded that since it is not favorable to Duterte, that is their natural response.

Even director Antoinette Jadaone waved at Pulse Asia on twitter for the survey that they have done, which had an unbelievable results. Many Filipinos did not like the government’s pandemic response.

Now that a legitimate study surfaced and ranked the Philippines at the bottom, Netizen @datumx11 would like Pulse Asia to give Duterte a 99% approval rating to save himself from the shame he brought upon himself.

There is a basis on why the Philippines is ranked last in the survey. The country had the longest-lockdown at almost three months after Covid broke in. Instead of coming up with ways to battle the Coronavirus, the Commander-in-Chief decided to wait for a vaccine to come out. Moreover, the government’s quarantine protocols were only strict to the poor. Also, the government did not listen to medical experts when addressing the Coronavirus.
Officials even claimed that the administration has improved in its testing capacity since the start of the pandemic. However, later on, the testing was done mostly by private-run laboratories and not by government-run agencies.
In the recent survey, an assessment previously done by an independent surveyor placed the Philippines globally at 79th out of 100 nations in handling the pandemic. It resulted as a reason that the country is among the ‘underperformers’ in the Asia-Pacific.
