Ted Failon believes that the next President should not be a fake news peddler

Through his program Radyo Singko 92.3, news FM seasoned broadcast journalist Ted Failon reminded the public to vote wisely and not fall for fake news on Tuesday, April 19.

In his commentary, he explained that he accepts whoever gets the highest seat in the government as long as it’s conducted the right way.

“Alam niyo mga kapatid, bagama’t sa bandang dulo ho ‘di ba? Kung sino man ho talaga ang pipiliin, yun naman talaga ang, you know, tatanggapin natin whether you like it or not. Basta’s importante lang ho, malinis na halalan.”

For him, everything would change when a presidentiable got elected because of black propaganda. The radio host even put it as a “fake president.”

“Pero yun nga lang ho, kapag po naghalalal tayo, ano po, nang dahil po sa mga kasinungalingan o fake news, para ka na ring naghalal ng fake leader.

“Kapag ikaw ay nanalo dahil sa pagpapakalat ng puro kasinungalingan, at napaniwala mo sa kasinungalingan ang mga botante, at nahalala ka, nangangahulugan na peke.”

Failon’s co-host DJ Chacha shared the video.

Meanwhile, supporters of presidential candidate and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr have been spreading disinformation on social media.

Actress-host Toni Gonzaga was criticized after she guested the young Marcos on her YouTube channel where it was considered by many as an “attempt to revise history.“

The former journalist and a known fake news peddler Jay Sonza even claimed that Marcos and his running-mate Davao City Mayor Sara “Inday” Duterte-Carpio were “leading” overseas.

According to Yvonne Chua, a Communication professor, and Tsek.ph project leader, some netizens were trying to destroy Vice President Leni Robredo’s image to boost Marcos Jr.’s popularity.

“Robredo’s quotes have been mangled, twisted, [or] fabricated to make her look like she is spouting nonsense. She has been called, rather harshly, Madumb, lutang, tanga, utal-utal,” stated Chua.

Social media platform twitter even suspended 300 accounts in relation to BBM after discovering that these users were violating the website’s community guidelines.

It was even found out that he tried to re-brand his family’s image on social media with the help of Cambridge Analytica.

“So we had a request straight from Bongbong Marcos to do a family rebranding. This was brought in through internal staff in Cambridge Analytica and was debated.

There were some people that didn’t want to touch it and there were others, like our CEO Alexander Nix, that saw it as a financial opportunity and asked to write the proposal anyway,” revealed former Cambridge Analytica employee-turned-whistleblower Brittany Kaiser.

The P203 billion estate tax issue of Marcos Jr also caused his supporters to interpret, on their own, the country’s tax laws.

Tax law expert Mickey Ingles debunked the claim that in order to consider the Marcos estate tax was to admit that it was not ill-gotten.

“That’s wrong logic, and a wrong understanding of the law. Because under the tax code, it doesn’t make a distinction whether the property is legally acquired or illegally acquired such as ill-gotten wealth. So as long as that property is yours at the time you die, pasok ‘yan sa gross estate mo at tatamaan ‘yan ng estate tax,” he explained.

On the other hand, Marcos Jr himself stressed that it was he who is a victim of fake news.

“Kami biktima kami dyan e. Maraming finafact-check ako na sinasabi hindi totoo ‘yung sinasabi ko. Wala naman akong sinabing ganun pero fake news daw yung sinabi ko. Wala akong sinabing ganun… Iniimbento nila yung sinabi ko tapos sasabihing fake,” he said during an interview with Go Negosyo’s KandidaTalks.
