Jim Paredes, Edwin Lacierda schooled Robin Padilla on PNoy’s legacy in education and employment

OPM singer and activist Jim Paredes and former Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda both slammed incoming Senator Robin Padilla over his comments about the PNoy administration’s lack of programs for education and employment.

In a tweet, Paredes said it is bothersome that an incoming senator will issue such a comment without proper vetting.

“We are in deep trouble when an incoming senator asks a [stupid] question like that.”

Edwin Lacierda, on the other hand, was more furious as he belied Padilla’s remarks.

In a series of tweets, the former Malacanang spokesman belied Padilla’s claims detailing the PNoy administration’s legacies in education and employment.

According to Lacierda, the PNoy admin solved the backlog in classrooms and books left by the GMA administration.

“Sen. Padilla asked why PNoy didn’t do anything in education & employment. Maraming nagawa si PNoy. Backlog sa classroom at school chairs at libro.”

According to DepEd data, the PNoy admin solved the 66 thousand classroom backlogs in 2009 and built 118 thousand new classrooms before the end of its term in 2016. DepEd during that time also mass hired teachers from 500 thousand in 2010 to 700 thousand in 2016, or more than 200 thousand teachers hired during the PNoy administration.

In terms of employment, the Aquino III government expanded the BPO industry, which saw a massive increase in the country’s employment rate. It also paved the way for the Philippines’ first-ever investment-grade status.

“The BPO industry expanded. Dumami ang empleyado sa BPO atbp. Una naging investment grade status ang Pilipinas under kay PNoy.”

Lacierda also mentioned the PNoy admin’s Conditional Cash Transfer Program (which later became the 4Ps program), which helped monitor the kids’ school attendance since it is part of the requirements to qualify for the program.

“Yung Conditional Cash Transfer Program, na monitor ang school attendance mga bata at dahil doon, maraming bata ang pumapasok sa paaralan. Syanga pala, programa yan ni GMA na merun [800,000] families. Pinagpatuloy ni PNoy & bago sya natapos ay tila may 4.2 Milyon families nakinabang.”

The K-12 program, which was instituted under the Aquino III administration, also helped in the continuous hiring of Overseas Filipino Workers because foreign countries required overseas workers to be graduates of the K-12 educational system to qualify.

“Yung K to 12 Program nilunsad din ni PNoy yan. Lingid sa marami, ang requirement ng maraming bansa lalo na sa Europa ay kailangan K to 12 ang educational system ng bansang kukunan ng overseas workers or else they wont hire. Dahil doon, patuloy pa rin ang pag hire ng ating OFWs.”

Netizen @mangyan5669 also added that during PNoy’s admin, many IP communities were given schools due to former DepEd Sec. Bro. Armin Luistro’s DepEd Order number 62.

“Sa panahon po ni Pnoy nabigyan ng puwang ang mga katutubong Pilipino na balangkasin ang edukasyon na batay sa kanilang kasaysayan, kultura, at kalagayan sa pamamagitan ng DepEd Order 62 na ipinatupad sa pangunguna ni Br. Armin. Maraming IP communities ang nagkaron ng paaralan.”
