Dingdong Dantes demands PH gov’t to prioritize climate change

On November 1, Kapuso actor Dingdong Dantes championed climate change discourse on the Twitter platform as he educated followers about the matter.

“At this point, it should be clear to everyone that addressing climate change should also be a priority for the country. Dadaan at dadaan ang marami pang bagyo sa bansa. There should be no excuse for us not to be prepared anymore,” tweeted Dantes.

Renee had many important insights in this thread. At this point, it should be clear to everyone that addressing climate change should also be a priority for the country. Following the onslaught of Typhoon Paeng, with a death toll hitting 110, ₱1.33B in agriculture losses, and ₱8.8M in infrastructure damages, Dantes reminds the government to utilize preparedness in calamities like this.

Quoting the tweet of Media and Communication Specialist Renee Karunungan Edwards, Dantes replied in the thread that public participation is essential to the administration’s impending efforts.

While our government is strengthening its efforts and policies in making sure that the right systems are in place to help secure the safety of every Filipino family, we also need to streamline public participation & have a more sustainable mechanism already for volunteers.

“While our government is strengthening its efforts and policies in making sure that the right systems are in place to help secure the safety of every Filipino family, we also need to streamline public participation & have a more sustainable mechanism already for volunteers… Kaya’t saludo ako sa ating mga rescuers at volunteers… both in Gov’t and Civil Society. Mabuhay kayo!” the actor wrote.

Despite his intention, a Twitter user questioned Dantes saying he is a gasoline endorser. The Kapuso actor countered the doubt by tweeting, “Yes. You are right. I am proud to endorse Caltex. But I chose to partner with them after learning that they are committed to find alternatives to fossil fuels such as renewable fuels/biodiesel and hydrogen, and to invest in carbon reduction projects.”

Dante’s response has gathered various reactions. Some came to his defense; others contradicted his claim.

I like how Dingdong Dantes is effortlessly educating the mass about carbon emissions and climate change. https://t.co/7fPG8TWja4

No such thing as renewable fuels. These fuels still contribute GHGs, & remain unsafe and unproven. Science & economics prove legit renewable energy to be reliable, cleaner, & cheaper. Why delay the just transition? Profit over people & planet? Dirty companies are so desperate lol https://t.co/uHPLk7RmeN

Anyway, this started because of Dingdong's tweet.

And let me tell you: THIS IS GREENWASHING! This is a desperate act of keeping Caltex and other fossil fuel companies accountable for carbon emissions. This is not laudable.https://t.co/FlxJG7DOtP

Dantes’ intention is to expound the educated petition of Renee and expressed his gratitude to him, as they have collaborated in 2015 on a campaign regarding climate change.
