The former 25-year-old Kapamilya star has been aggressively trying her luck in the international scene, by, in her own words: ‘clout-chasing’.
Liza Soberano has no doubt entered her ‘clout-chasing’ era.
The ex-Star Magic star admitted that it is what she has been trying to do ever since she decided to break away from her former home Network, ABS-CBN, and started taking her shot in the international scene. Currently dominating showbiz headlines because of her streak of brow-raising revelations, Soberano recently appeared in fellow former Kapamilya actress Bea Alonzo’s latest vlog entry.
In the said vlog, uploaded on March 6, she answered several questions about her career as expected–it generated mixed reactions from netizens.
One of those controversial questions was her alleged clout-chasing efforts by collaborating with various K-POP stars. Many saw such a move as desperate, noting how she has seemingly downgraded herself from a local superstar to a mere fangirling lady.

In Alonzo’s vlog, Soberano had her chance to explain herself over such observations by fans and casual netizens.
“There is no shame in clout-chasing; that’s what the industry is,” she responded when asked by Alonzo if she agreed with netizens’ accusation of her.
“That’s why I don’t get, actually, about the Philippines. Everybody is so afraid of social climbing or clout chasing, but our industry is all about exposure and collaboration, and that’s what I love about America. They don’t see it as clout-chasing; they see it as you getting the bag. They see it as you working hard to achieve your goal,” she added, impressing Alonzo.
That said, several netizens aired their doubts over the actress’s capability to penetrate K-Pop, arguing the actress has never been known as a good dancer or a singer. Soberano is yet to undergo any K-POP training, which, as many K-POP fans knew, takes several years.
“Si ateng Hopia kasi feeling kpop star ang branding sa careless, bawal lovelife bawal may pictures ng Bf, hoy neng hindi ka din papasa sa Korea you can’t sing and dance . Chekka!,” tweeted @altcristyfermin, who seemed to disagree with Soberano’s ‘K-POP’ rebranding.
His tweet was in response to Soberano’s explanation of why she has not posted anything about her love team, LizQuen, and her boyfriend, Enrique Gil, for a very long time.
