In a recent episode of the popular Filipino show ‘It’s Showtime,’ renowned comedian and TV host Vice Ganda recounted a touching story of an unnamed Japanese woman who played a pivotal role in supporting Vice Ganda’s education.

Despite never meeting her, Vice expressed profound gratitude and a desire to give back. This highlighted the power of anonymous acts of kindness.

On June 15, During the show, Vice’s co-hosts reminisced about the moment Vice first shared the story of the Japanese woman who had helped sustain his studies from elementary to college. With heartfelt emotion, Vice Ganda revealed that he had never met the compassionate woman but would never forget her immense impact on his life.

“Yes, kasi ‘di ba lagi kong ikinukuwento sa inyo… ako’y nakapag-aral dahil tinulungan din ako ng taong hindi ko nakilala,” Vice shared, reflecting on the generosity that enabled his education.

The kind-hearted Japanese woman, identified as Noriko Tecora from Kyoto, Japan, remains etched in Vice Ganda’s memory. Each month, the comedian writes a letter to Noriko, expressing his unwavering gratitude. To keep costs low, Vice uses onion skin paper and a pencil, ensuring his heartfelt messages reach their destination without straining his benefactor’s resources.

“Nakakatawa lang pero hindi ko siya nakakalimutan pati ang address niya kasi sinusulatan ko siya buwan-buwan para magpasalamat, (Siya si) Noriko Tecora,” Vice revealed, underscoring his commitment to expressing appreciation despite the distance.

He further shared his mother’s advice, which inspired his approach to these letters of gratitude. The comedian’s mother encouraged him to write with a light touch, preventing tears on the delicate onion skin paper. “Gagaanan mo lang ang kamay mo anak para hindi mapunit para buwan-buwan nakakapagsalamat ka,” Vice recalled his mother’s wise words.

The story touched the audience’s hearts, resonating with the universal theme of gratitude and the profound impact of anonymous acts of kindness. Vice Ganda expressed gratitude for the support he received. This allowed him to pursue his education and achieve his dreams.

“Never ko siyang na-meet, but up to now I am very grateful kasi ang taong kong kilala pinag-aral ako hanggang kolehiyo,” Vice shared, emphasizing the deep sense of appreciation she holds for his unseen benefactor.
