The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has taken action in response to a recent incident involving the use of profanity during a live broadcast of the entertainment show “EAT.”

The incident occurred on August 10, during the “Sugod Bahay Mga Kapatid” segment of the show, and featured host Wally Bayola using profane language on air.

Prompted by the incident, the MTRCB has initiated an inquiry with the production group of the “EAT” noontime TV show. The board issued a “Notice to Appear and Testify,” addressing the matter and aiming to ensure that appropriate measures are taken. The incident has sparked public discussions and concerns, prompting the MTRCB to respond swiftly.

The notice issued by the MTRCB reads, “The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), motu proprio, issued a Notice to Appear and Testify to the Production Group of E.A.T noontime TV show over the utterance of profane words by one of the program hosts, Wally Bayola, which aired on 10 August 2023 as covered by the Board’s Monitoring and Inspection Unit.”

The incident is noted as a violation of Section 2 (B), Chapter IV of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Presidential Decree No. 1986 (PD No. 1986). A hearing has been scheduled for August 14, 2023, at the MTRCB Offices in Timog Avenue, Quezon City.

Just this afternoon, Wally Bayola on their show “EAT” has publicly apologized for an incident that occurred on August 10, involving the use of profanity during a live broadcast on television.

He said, “Ako po ay may nabitawang salita na hindi ko po dapat sinasabi. Nagkamali po ako doon at ako po ay humihingi ng inyong paumanhin at pag-unawa ninyong lahat,” Bayola said, apologizing as well to fellow hosts Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon. “Pasensya na po, pasensya na po sa lahat.”

The MTRCB holds the authority to impose penalties for any violations of PD No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, including suspension or cancellation of permits and/or licenses, along with fines and other administrative penalties.

The MTRCB’s role encompasses the monitoring and regulation of content in Philippine television and cinema, ensuring that it aligns with acceptable standards of morality, decency, and cultural sensitivity.

The “EAT” show, known for its diverse entertainment segments, has garnered a following due to its distinctive format and engaging content. Nevertheless, the recent incident has prompted questions about the show’s content supervision and adherence to broadcasting guidelines.
