The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has released an official statement in response to the recent uproar caused by comedian Joey De Leon’s “lubid” (rope) joke on TV5’s noontime show ‘E.A.T.’

During a segment called ‘Gimme 5,’ when a contestant asked about items that are hung around the neck, Joey De Leon humorously replied with, “Lubid, lubid. Nakakalimutan n’yo”

This particular scene quickly went viral and triggered a wave of public backlash.

Many netizens urged the MTRCB, currently under the leadership of Lala Sotto, daughter of ‘E.A.T.’ host Tito Sotto, to take action against the show for Joey’s controversial joke.

Notably, ‘It’s Showtime,’ a rival noontime program, recently faced a 12-day suspension due to an allegedly inappropriate icing-eating moment involving the real-life couple Vice Ganda and Ion Perez.

Responding to the public outcry, the MTRCB issued a statement, affirming its commitment to investigate whether Joey De Leon’s actions violated “Presidential Decree No. 1986 and/or its Implementing Rules and Regulations.”

The MTRCB’s official statement reads as follows: “MTRCB to review complaints on E.A.T.”

“In light of the complaints received from the viewing public regarding the E.A.T. Gimme 5 segment broadcast on September 23, 2023, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) shall assess the validity of these complaints and determine whether they constitute a violation of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and/or its Implementing Rules and Regulations,” as conveyed by the MTRCB.

It’s noteworthy that Lala Sotto had previously faced criticism concerning an on-screen “sweet” moment involving her parents, Tito Sotto and Helen Gamboa. However, she clarified that her parents had not violated any regulations during that particular scene.
